Chelsea Handler is no stranger to the real estate market. The comedian has been making housing deals for years and currently owns several properties. She’s made a fair bit of money in the market, too, though she admits not all of her real estate purchases were the best ideas ever. During a recent podcast episode, Chelsea Handler lambasted Robert F. Kennedy Jr., insisting the house she purchased from him in 2021 was a nightmare property. This is everything she said was wrong with the house.

Chelsea Handler opens up about the “nightmare” house she bought from RFK Jr.

Chelsea Handler has made a career out of talking to people about her life. She’s shared details of her romances, of her early career in Hollywood, and even tales from her youth in her books. Her podcast, Dear Chelsea, expands on that empire. During a recent episode of the show, she chatted a bit about real estate, sharing tales about the nightmare property she purchased from Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his wife, Cheryl Hines, without knowing it.

Apparently, in 2021, Chelsea Handler plunked down over $5 million for a Los Angeles area house that promised solid indoor-outdoor living and other amenities. What the talk show host found, however, was a nightmare. Handler said the seller, whom she later learned was RFK Jr. and Cheryl Hines, left behind a “toxic environment” that took years to fix.

Handler said an unauthorized outbuilding had to be removed and that foundation issues plagued the structure. The famed comedian said things were so bad that she couldn’t live in the home for years. Handler contends that she didn’t know who she was buying the home from, either, claiming she purchased the property from a trust.

Where do RFK Jr. and Cheryl Hines live now?

While Handler admitted that she spent years living elsewhere while contractors and construction workers made the home livable, she is currently residing in the home. RFK and Hines, on the other hand, are now living clear across the country. Initial reports indicated Hines had no plans on leaving Los Angeles behind to join RFK Jr. in Washington, D.C. Still, she did end up moving.

The fellow comedian didn’t pack up and head east until her husband purchased a very expensive townhome, though. According to Realtor, RFK Jr. laid out $4.43 million on a four-bedroom townhouse in the elite neighborhood of Georgetown. The purchase was made in April 2025. By August, Hines appeared to be living in the property full-time.

RFK Jr. and Cheryl Hines have not yet commented on Handler’s admission about the home she purchased from them.
