A sweeping federal investigation into a kidnapping and robbery in January has revealed that Gucci Mane was the victim of a violent crime at the hands of Pooh Shiesty and his associates. The incident, which occured inside a recording studio, has led to the arrest of eight individuals, including Pooh Shiesty, Big30, and Shiesty’s father. A ninth suspect remains at large. So, exactly what led to the incident? We have all of the details.

Why was Gucci Mane kidnapped and robbed?

Gucci Mane’s kidnapping at the hands of Pooh Shiesty and his associates was the result of a business deal gone very wrong. According to several sources, the entire situation started off when Gucci Mane and other victims met a group of nine individuals to discuss a recording contract. Negotiations stalled, and tensions rose.

According to prosecutors, the negotiation then turned into an armed robbery and kidnapping. Gucci Mane and two others were reportedly held at gunpoint, forced to release Pooh Shiesty from his recording contract, and robbed of high-end watches and cash. According to News Channel 3, the incident occured inside a Dallas music studio, with Pooh Shiesty acting as the ringleader. It appears there may have been a robbery plot in place from the start.

The incident is likely to lead to serious jail time

Pooh Shiesty and his associates are likely facing significant jail time if convicted of their crimes. Shiesty, as the ringleader, has an added layer of complexity to his case because he is considered a repeat offender. In fact, the Memphis-based rapper was still dealing with the fallout of a prior weapons charge when the incident occured. He had been sentenced to five years in federal prison in 2022 but was released in 2025. The sentence stemmed from a 2020 shooting and robbery at a hotel in Florida.

While this particular incident occured in Texas, the crimes are considered federal and thus are subject to federal sentencing guidelines. According to several sources, federal kidnapping charges can carry sentences up to life in prison. Because the crime is federal, the suspects, if convicted, must serve 85% of their imposed sentence, though life in prison seems unlikely given what is known so far.

Gucci Mane has not released a statement since news of the arrests broke.
