While many celebrities attended Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding in June, Mariah Carey was not there to celebrate the couple. She said as much when directly asked for her thoughts on the ceremony. Carey answered in a simple, straight-to-the-point manner that reminded many fans of the way Carey once talked about Jennifer Lopez.

Mariah Carey had a straightforward response when asked about Jeff Bezos’ wedding

Recently, a paparazzo asked Carey what she thought about Bezos and Sánchez’s wedding. Without breaking her stride, Carey answered, “I wasn’t there.”

When they asked if she hadn’t been invited, Carey chided the cameraperson by saying, “Oh, don’t turn this into that.” She laughed and continued on without commenting further on the subject.

Fans have praised Mariah Carey’s response to the question about Jeff Bezos

Bezos and Sánchez’s wedding has been the subject of much criticism, and people have praised Carey’s response to the question.

“She’s always so diplomatic,” wrote one Reddit user. “People think she’s giving low-key attitude but she’s just being honest and straightforward.”

“Mariah in all black with glasses will always deliver a good one liner,” wrote another person.

Many people added this to their lists of Carey’s favorite responses. It also reminded a lot of responders about the time Carey famously answered “I don’t know her” when asked about Jennifer Lopez

People also praised Carey for gently chastising the paparazzo.

“The real gem here is actually ‘don’t turn this into that,’” one person wrote. “Just put him in his place with his sensationalist bulls***.”

“Also in how she shut down the reporter’s second question, laughing, ‘Oh don’t turn this into that,’ laughs some more,” wrote another person. “Like, the remark shuts it down by showing she knows his game and her laugh shows I’m being good-natured, but it can turn, so take this opportunity to save face while you still can. Such a masterclass. Putting ‘Don’t turn this into that’ into my memory bank of fast responses.”

For many of Carey’s fans, the brief interaction was just another one of the many reasons why they love her.

“She never misses,” summed up one commenter.

What celebrities attended the wedding?

Though Carey did not attend the wedding, a number of other celebrities were in attendance. The famous faces at their Venice ceremony included Tom Brady, Sydney Sweeney, Usher, Orlando Bloom, Oprah Winfrey, Leonardo DiCaprio, and the Kardashians.
