Fans Say ‘Insufferable’ Katy Perry Has ‘Lost Her Star Power’ on Floundering Tour
Katy Perry’s latest era is going over almost astoundingly poorly, and even her fans have begun to turn on her. The pop star has faced backlash for nearly every decision she has made recently. Her latest album, 143, received negative reviews and low sales. Her decision to go to space brought her widespread derision. And, her tour has disappointed attendees. Some fans believe Perry has lost the star power that made her famous.
Fans are disappointed with the latest stage of Katy Perry’s career
Perry was hugely successful for years. Her album Teenage Dream spent 200 weeks on the Billboard 200. In recent years, though, her fortune has changed. 143 debuted at no. 6 and only remained there for two weeks. This made it her shortest-running album to date. Some Reddit users have shared why they think Perry has struggled so much lately.
“She’s lost her star power and is grasping at straws trying to regain the chokehold she used to have on pop culture instead of gracefully bowing out,” wrote one person. “I doubt she even knows how to do that — she’s been surrounded by yes men now for fifteen years. watching her scramble to regain relevancy is in the top ten most uncomfortable things I’ve ever witnessed. If it was literally any other famous woman I’d feel bad. Unfortunately for her I do not. doesn’t seem that very many other people do either.”
Many people believe there are a variety of factors at play. She chose to work with Dr. Luke, who singer Kesha accused of rape. Her politics seem hollow to fans and her sense of humor is no longer apparent in her music.
“Her time has definitely fizzled out.. I wont forgive or forget her chosing to work with Dr Luke again.. and then the space trip was too much for me,” one person wrote. “Then she gets back and put on the God awful performance with weird faces and i just cant see her the same… Her music WAS good… But now its lackluster and pretentious.”
Even people who said they were once huge fans no longer support her.
“I [used] to adore Katy Perry back in the day, she comes across as insufferable now,” someone wrote. “Just completely unlikable as a person, I can’t find any other way to describe it. She even married my childhood celebrity crush, I can’t help but side eye and avoid anything he does now too.”
While some have said that Perry needs a new PR team, others believe that even this won’t help her.

The sales for 143 were lackluster, and its corresponding tour is the same. Her 83-show tour began in April, and some shows experienced low ticket sales at first.
“Expectations were high, and she is disappointed by the lack of interest in some countries and venues,” an insider told The U.S. Sun. “Some people involved thought it would be a massive wave with ticket sales exploding quickly, but sadly, she is not Taylor Swift.”
Perry’s tour will run until December.

While Perry’s fan base seems to be dwindling, many people have still defended her. Her “Women’s World” video did not go over well, but some fans have said they liked it.
“I feel most people don’t even get to consider this video in the perspective it was intended,” one person wrote on Reddit. “We know why, it’s been discussed. I like it though and it makes sense with what Katy’s been telling.”
Even those who don’t exactly like the video said they try to look at it with magnanimity.
“I’m so confused by it and have tried to look at it through a very generous lense to figure out Katy was trying or wanting to do but can’t quite figure it out,” someone wrote. “It’s definitely heavily satirical but to what extent its trying to make a message that I assume is pro-feminism idk.”
