Fans Slam Selena Gomez for Her ‘Privileged’ Behavior at a Beyoncé Concert
This month, Selena Gomez was one of many people who attended a Beyoncé concert. The singer and actor posted in anticipation of the show and then updated fans in the middle of the performance. Gomez was also watching the Knicks play the Pacers. Many people felt Gomez’s divided attention was disrespectful to Beyoncé.

In a post during Beyoncé’s MetLife Stadium concert this Sunday, Gomez posted a photo of her view. In it, she showed that she was watching the Knicks game on her phone.
“Still got my eye on the game,” she wrote in the caption.
People quickly admonished her for the post. They felt it was tasteless of her.
“Not surprised. Rich people can’t appreciate things because they’ve destroyed the pleasure center of their brain from getting what they want all the time,” wrote one person on Reddit. “Selena will never know an Ounce of the happiness I felt in the cheap seats.”
“This is the most privileged nonsense,” wrote another person. “Imagine bragging about being so used to luxury you don’t appreciate it.”
Others felt her position in her suite showed her lack of interest more than watching the game did.
“I don’t really care about the ‘watching sports’-aspect although Beyoncés concerts are so well curated you really shouldn’t miss a thing,” wrote one person. “My question is: why is she so far in the back?! There’s so many free seats. She can’t even see anything. Why are these suits so expensive and yet they suck.”
A number of other people criticized Gomez’s artistry, saying that she should have paid attention in order to improve her own music.
Other people defended her
A number of people have come to Gomez’s defense, though. One person said they only thought watching the game became a problem when she posted it.
“If someone is a big enough sports fan, this is honestly not that unexpected,” wrote one person. “I’ve been to weddings where the bride/groom were checking scores. It’s playoff season, and the games have been insane. That being said, I wouldn’t post it.”
Others didn’t think it was a big deal at all. The playoff game was important and exciting.
“This is supposed to be a problem?” wrote one person. “Its the playoffs!”
She has faced backlash in the past
Gomez has faced backlash many times over the years. She often found herself at the center of controversy. Gomez admitted that this has not been easy for her. She has taken breaks from social media to make things easier on her.
“The end take of social media on my end was about my personal life and, you know, then it was used to say these things and I just felt like every day I woke up and I was like, ‘Why am I doing this?,’” she said in an Instagram live. “Like, if I’m constantly doing things wrong or if they think I’m this sellout, fake, not real, not authentic — which is every part of my being — these words hurt and they add nothing to my life and the truth is they’re lies.”
She said she realized having social media was not healthy for her at that point in her life.
