Kanye West has a bit of a pattern in recent years. The music mogul lies low for a while before showing up on social media and in public. Once he resurfaces, he makes a spectacle of himself and his wife before disappearing again. He’s changed his routine in recent months, though. Kanye and Bianca Censori have been extremely quiet recently. Despite that, a content creator recently caught up with Kanye in Japan. Fans were quick to note that the music artist seemed sad.

Kanye West surfaces in Japan looking sad

Kanye West has been keeping a low profile, but a content creator recently caught him on the streets of Japan. In a video uploaded to Instagram by Ajay Porter, who goes by the name Mystery Fashionist on social media, Kanye discusses his outfit. He noted that he was wearing a pair of his signature shoes and clothing he picked up at a recent pop-up. When Porter asks the music mogul what trend he regrets participating in, he simply says “life” before the sidewalk interview ends. The video was filmed in Tokyo.

While West’s answer could be seen as him being edgy, some fans are concerned about his well-being. Several fans took to social media to suggest West looked “sad” in the upload. Others argued that he appeared tense or on edge. Kanye’s body language did seem guarded, and he rubbed his head in dismay throughout most of the short interview. The impromptu sidewalk interview is the first time the rapper has been seen out and willing to talk in weeks.  His last public performance was more than two months ago in China.

Could money troubles be getting him down?

While Kanye West didn’t come out and say he was feeling blue, his answer to a simple question suggests he might be experiencing some stress, though it’s unclear what it is related to. While West’s mental health has been a topic of discussion over the years, it’s possible he’s also feeling tense over alleged money problems. West still has a relatively high net worth, according to several sources, but it has tumbled in recent years.

More recently, he has been having some trouble keeping up with his taxes. According to The New York Post, several of his properties are delinquent on property taxes. A home in Chicago tied to his late mother, Donda, is among the properties with past-due bills. West has also been selling off some of his stateside property at a loss. The recent sales could be another clue that he’s experiencing some financial hardship. Still, it’s unclear if he’s selling property because he needs to or because he’s hoping to cut ties with the United States. He’s been spending a fair bit of time abroad in recent years.
