Fans Think It Was ‘Obvious’ Robert Irwin Would Win ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ But They’re Still Happy for Him
Robert Irwin is the season 34 champion of Dancing With the Stars. The 21-year-old began the season as a fan favorite and ended on a high. Though Irwin was one of five contestants who made it to the finale, many fans say they had little doubt that he would go home with the big prize. The lack of a twist didn’t make them any less happy for Irwin, though.
Robert Irwin won ‘Dancing With the Stars’
On this season of Dancing With the Stars, the finalists included Irwin and his professional partner Witney Carson, Alix Earle and Val Chmerkovskiy; Dylan Efron and Daniella Karagach; Jordan Chiles and Ezra Sosa; and Elaine Hendrix and Alan Bersten.
The finalists performed three dances. One was chosen by one of the judges, one tested their improvisational skills, and one was a freestyle round.
Irwin and Carson performed a quickstep to Jet’s “Are You Gonna Be My Girl,” a cha cha to “Cake by the Ocean” by DNCE, and a freestyle to “Black & Gold” by Sam Sparro and “The Nights” by Avicii. They received scores of 29, 30, and 30, respectively. In the end, they took home the Mirrorball Trophy.
Fans say they knew Robert Irwin would win ‘Dancing With the Stars’ from the beginning
After Irwin took home the win, many fans admitted that they saw this conclusion coming even before the finale.
“It was obvious from when he was first announced, but it was still well deserved!” wrote one Reddit user. “For both him and Witney.”
“Knew this was gonna happen after seeing that first dance,” added another person. “Congrats Robert I hope you had fun!”
“Expected but in this shifty, dark timeline I’m so ok with it,” put in a third person.
Many people said that they enjoyed watching Irwin’s positive energy throughout his time on the show.
“He seems so genuine and sweet,” wrote one person. “I’ve rarely met someone or saw them in media and thought, ‘wow that guy is genuinely nice and wholesome’ and he seems to be one of the really nice ones. Congratulations to him!”
Even people who didn’t watch the show were happy to see Irwin take home the Mirrorball Trophy.
“Yaaaaay!” wrote one person. “I watched absolutely none of it, but he’s so lovely.”
He spoke about his time on the show
Irwin went into the finale with a rib injury, but he still gave the performances his all.
“We just knew we had to make it work, because it was the way to just say we’re so grateful for this experience,” Irwin said on Good Morning America. “It is literally the greatest thing I think I’ve ever got to be part of.”
Ten years ago, his sister, Bindi, won the show. Irwin said competing has been a dream of his ever since, and he feels endlessly grateful for the opportunity.
“I remember watching my sister raise that Mirrorball trophy 10 years ago to the day … and it just felt like, ‘Wow, what a privilege that we are here,’ and that pressure was there, but it was just the pressure to be the best version of ourselves.”
