Michael Jackson’s fans are furious at one of the late singer‘s longtime defenders, Mark Geragos. The celebrity attorney, who represented the King of Pop in his 2005 trial, is being slammed for joining a legal fight against the Michael Jackson Company LLC.

Now, many of Jackson’s supporters are expressing their feelings, alleging that Geragos is a “liar for hire.”

Here’s more on the case and what fans are saying.

Mark Geragos joins Jackson’s ex-associate in new case against the Michael Jackson Company

Geragos, one of Jackson’s lawyers in his molestation trial two decades ago, is now representing a former Jackson associate, Frank Cascio, in a case attempting to undo a 2020 confidential agreement with the Michael Jackson Company. Cascio and four of his family members previously received a settlement from the Jackson estate after raising claims of sexual abuse.

Geragos argued that the settlement his client signed back then is unenforceable. He said, “California has made clear that confidentiality and nondisclosure provisions designed to conceal sexual abuse are illegal and against public policy.”

In legal documents obtained by Showbiz Cheat Sheet, the Michael Jackson Company accuses Cascio and his representatives of orchestrating a multimillion-dollar “shakedown” against the late star’s estate to the tune of $213 million. That figure was later dropped to $44 million.

“Frank demanded that he and his cohorts be paid an additional $213 million, claiming for the first time that the agreement was unenforceable,” the filing read. “Frank threatened to go public with allegations of Michael’s purported abuse.”

In his sworn declaration filed in court, attorney Martin D. Singer, representing the Michael Jackson company, said, “They threatened to sue if we didn’t pay.”

Fans label Geragos a ‘liar for hire’ for representing Frank Cascio

The accusation fans made about Geragos began with a “liar for hire” hashtag under a Halloween post featuring the “Thriller” video on the Michael Jackson Instagram account.

While several commented with just the #liarforhire hashtag, one user wrote, “Mark Geragos defended Michael when he was alive, now he’s extorting him? LIAR FOR HIRE!!”

Just weeks ago, Geragos appeared on a TMZ segment with Harvey Levin to discuss the Michael Jackson Company’s case, which now has fans fuming.

A person commented on that post, opining, “Mark is trying to say that Harvey doesn’t want to talk about it, but he’s leaving out that he was part of Michael Jackson’s defense in 2005 and has said he didn’t believe the allegations multiple times. He’s making a mockery of this and being an ambulance chaser. He’s trying to get around what his clients signed by threatening the estate and Michael Jackson’s children and mother.”

Another alleged, “The Cascios are ridiculous, and Geragos will undermine his own credibility by siding with them. The Cascios sold fraudulent songs to make a profit and went to the estate to ask for millions. This is a textbook example of extortion.”

A third posted, “He’s [Geragos] full of s***, he defended Michael for years before and after his death up until he aligned with Frank, who also spent years defending Michael. The estate isn’t silencing anyone.”
