Reports surfaced on Oct. 4 that former NFL quarterback and current football analyst Mark Sanchez was hospitalized after being stabbed in Indianapolis. He was in town ahead of the Colts and Las Vegas Raiders game, which he was supposed to cover the following day. However, as more information became public, it was revealed that Sanchez was arrested for his role in an altercation with another man.

Sanchez was initially charged with three misdemeanors–battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication. Now though, the ex-signal caller is facing a felony charge.

Here’s more on that, plus the answers to questions fans have been asking over the last 48 hours about his personal life, including who his wife is and why you may recognize her.

Sanchez is married to an actress

When he was a player in the league Sanchez had quite a few famous girlfriends, including Eva Longoria, Hayden Panettiere, Kate Upton, and Jamie Lynn Sigler.

In 2017, he started dating another woman in the entertainment industry and six years later, he and actress Perry Mattfeld tied the knot.

Mattfeld recently starred in the Hulu football comedy Chad Powers opposite Glen Powell. She is also known for her role on the USA series In the Dark and as Mel in the hit comedy-drama Shameless.

Mattfeld and Sanchez have two children together. They share twin daughters who were born in March 2025. Sanchez also has a son, Daniel, from a previous relationship.

Sanchez now faces a felony charge

During a press conference on Oct. 6, Marion County prosecutor Ryan Mears announced that his office had upgraded Sanchez’s charges to a Level 5 felony battery of causing serious injury. Mears said the former quarterback is now facing the more serious charge, which carries a maximum sentence of between one and six years in prison.

According to Mears, the dispute between Sanchez and a 69-year-old dump truck driver began over a parking space. The altercation took place in an alley between the Westin Hotel and the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown. The older gentleman told Sanchez he was in the loading dock because he was working collecting grease for one of the hotels, but Sanchez kept insisting that he move his truck. Surveillance footage shows men circling the truck before they begin to struggle.

The victim told police he used pepper spray at first to defend himself, but when Sanchez kept advancing, he grabbed his knife and stabbed him in self-defense.

“You have the allegations of a 38-year-old man becoming involved in an altercation with a 69-year-old man who sustained significant, very severe injuries as a result of that altercation,” Mears said. “We are literally talking about people fighting over a parking space and/or a dispute about where people are parking, and it resulted in someone just incredibly significant injuries.”

At Monday’s press conference, IMPD Chief Chris Bailey added, “I don’t care who you are, I don’t care what you do for a living, I don’t care where you live, if you come into our city and commit violence, we will use all the tools at our disposal to hold you accountable.”
