Prince William and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) met in college and dated for several years before announcing their engagement on Nov. 16, 2010. They tied the knot months later on April 29, 2011, and today have three children together. But their relationship early on wasn’t always smooth sailing as the pair broke up not once, but twice.

Now, someone who worked for the royals when Will and Kate got engaged is remembering the noticeable change in their relationship. Here’s more on that, plus what a psychic sees in the year ahead for the couple.

Former staffer remembered the change in Prince William and Kate following their last breakup

Grant Harrold was King Charles’s butler for seven years. During his time working for the now-monarch, his duties included those of valet, housekeeper, house manager, and driver. Harrold also looked after Prince Harry, Prince William, and Kate whenever they stayed at Highgrove House.

“There was a huge amount of buzz. We didn’t know in advance,” Harrold said per OLBG. “The first I saw was when it was on the TV. But we weren’t at all surprised at all, it was so obviously coming. We noticed that in the final year, they became a lot more intimate with each other. They weren’t afraid of showing their emotions towards each other in front of us.

“There was definitely a change in the way they were around other people after the split. They just got closer and closer, and we could see it. Before the split, they were boyfriend and girlfriend, that’s all it was — but after they were a couple.”

Speaking on behalf of Heart Bingo, the former royal butler also told Showbiz Cheat Sheet that “King Charles was super excited because he gets on so well with Kate. He even hosted a little dinner for the family to celebrate. The celebration also gave us — as the family’s staff — the opportunity to personally congratulate Kate and William, which was very sweet. Whenever the family had dinner parties at Highgrove, he always wanted to sit next to her at dinner. They always had a lot to talk about.”
