Future’s ex-girlfriend, Brittni Mealy, is not playing around when it comes to the child support agreement she and the rapper came to over thier 12-year-old son, Prince. Mealy and Future, whose legal name is Nayvadius DeMun Cash, were in court recently, and Mealy is requesting that he be held in contempt. The court proceedings also revealed that the iconic rapper is paying Mealy a surprisingly small amount of child support each month. Here is what we know.

Brittni Mealy wants Future held in contempt over a child support issue

Brittni Mealy and Future were in court to discuss the rapper’s failure to comply with the requirements of their child support agreement. Mealy, who has custody of their 12-year-old son, Prince, asked a judge to hold Future in contempt.

According to TMZ, Mealy and Future are arguing over a $500,000 life insurance policy that Future has yet to set up. According to the outlet, Future agreed to take out the policy, naming Mealy the trustee and thier shared son the beneficiary in their official custody agreement. Mealy argues that, despite the agreement, Future has failed to take the necessary steps to establish the policy, and she wants him to pay for it. Future has had at least two years to set up the policy. It was part of a 2023 court order. The life insurance policy was not the only child support matter that Mealy and Future dealt with during their recent court hearing, though.

How much does the rapper pay each month?

While Brittni Mealy wants to see Future held in contempt for failing to take out the life insurance policy they agreed upon, the court hearing also addressed how much he must pay Mealy each month. The rapper was previously handing over just $3,000 per month to meet the needs of the 12-year-old child they share. The judge decided that was not enough, upping his required contribution to $5,000 per month.

The number has surprised social media users. Future, said to be worth upwards of $40 million, made a massive profit in 2022 when he sold his music catalog. Before that, he was earning millions each year from those recordings. Considering his earning potential, fans expected the rapper to pay more than $5,000 per month for his child. There might be a reason the child support amount is so low, though.

How many kids does he have?

The surprisingly low child support amount Brittni Mealy receives from Future might be related to other financial obligations he has. Mealy is not the only woman Future has a child with. In fact, he has nine children by nine different women. The never-married rapper previously denied the paternity of at least one of those children, but the matter appears to be settled now.

While Future tries to keep his private life fairly private, some of his personal business has made headlines. We know the identities of several of his children’s mothers, but not all. Ciara is his most famous co-parent. He has spent years in a custody battle with the singer, with whom he shares his son, Future. Ciara made headlines late last year when she added Wilson to the child’s name, signifying his connection to his stepfather, Russell Wilson.

He also shares children with Instagram models, Eliza Reign and Joie Chavis, who welcomed children in recent years.  His first child with his ex-girlfriend, Jessica Smith, was born in 2002. Future appears to have good relationships with several of the women raising his children, though there have been some contentious court battles over the years. Mealy is just his latest adversary.
