Gayle King has been an anchor on CBS Mornings for over a decade. Recently, however, rumors claim that she will exit the program after her contract expires in 2026. King’s contract expires in May, at which point sources say she will move on to other roles with the network. CBS has made many changes, leading to reports of drama. King confirmed this in a recent interview.

Gayle King is rumored to be leaving ‘CBS Mornings’ after 13 years

King joined CBS Mornings as an anchor in 2012. Sources close to the situation say that when her contract expires in May 2026, she will exit the program. They added that CBS hopes King will remain with the network and produce her own programming. A spokesperson for CBS declined to comment on the situation.

“There have been no discussions with Gayle about her contract that runs through May 2026,” they told Variety. “She’s a truly valued part of CBS and we look forward to engaging with her about the future.”

Gayle King addressed the rumors about her exit from ‘CBS Mornings’

While King has not gone into much detail about her future with CBS Mornings, she did confirm that there is drama behind the scenes.

“I’ve decided I’m going to stay out of the drama — and there is some drama,” she said on Sherri, adding, “I’m going to stay out of that. I’m just going to continue to do my job.”

Still, she said that some of what is being reported about her position is not true.

“What I say is this, I’m not going to negotiate in the press, but I hear one thing in the building and one side outside of the building,” she told Sherri Shepherd. “I’ll be reading an article and going, ‘That’s not true.'”

King said she likes her job and believes that CBS likes her. At this point, she said she is not planning for changes in the future.

“I don’t go in hypotheticals,” she said. “It’s like if you’re running for office and said, ‘Well, if you don’t win, what are you going to do?’ I don’t think like that. And I also believe everything works out the way it’s supposed to.”

She spoke about her career on the news program

King has spent over a decade with CBS Mornings. While she said the work hasn’t always been easy, she is glad to do it.

“I set the alarm for 3:24 AM, and I need three snoozes,” she told Harvard Business Review. “I wear an Apple Watch, but I joke that it only tells me how much sleep I’m not getting. Between my work hours and menopause, I haven’t had a good night’s sleep in 15 or 20 years. But I don’t have a system. I don’t take naps. I just figure it out. Some days I’m running on fumes, but other days I’m like, I can’t believe that I get to do this.”
