Gayle King’s Rainy Day Behavior Continues to Divide Fans
A video of CBS host Gayle King has got people talking about what she refused to do in the rain herself, but had someone else do for her.
An 11-second clip on X went viral on March 29 and sparked a debate over the fact that King had someone holding an umbrella over her to protect her from the light rain as she made her way to an awaiting vehicle.
The video’s caption took a dig at King, mentioning that she had “someone carry her umbrella for her, these are the people that claim they relate to the working class.”
Several commenters were then quick to jump all over Oprah’s best friend as well.
“I’m 64 no one has or has ever needed to carry an umbrella for me,” one person wrote.
“She had a $12 latte in her hand. What is she supposed to do, carry her own umbrella?” a second asked sarcastically.
“She’s a very important astronaut!” another person joked, while a fourth said, “Imagine needing a personal umbrella carrier while telling people you understand their daily struggles. The optics write themselves.”
Others shared clips of how no assistants were needed for recording artist Shakira when she held a cardboard box over herself as a shield from rainwater, as well as images of the late Queen Elizabeth II and other royals holding their own umbrellas.
But not everyone thought King did anything wrong and defended her having an umbrella holder, writing, “I see nothing wrong here; convince me otherwise if you have a plausible explanation” and “Can’t seem to see the big deal or am I missing something?” and “Most receptionists or people close will carry the umbrella better believe she getting paid very good.”
