Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have been together for ten years, and she admitted that there’s been another presence in their relationship from the very beginning. When discussing her marriage, Stefani said that the key to long-term success was a belief in God. She has spoken often about feeling as though God put Shelton in her life. She also feels that her faith has helped keep her marriage strong.

Gwen Stefani spoke about the third party in her relationship with Blake Shelton

In an episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Barrymore asked Stefani for her best advice about love.

“Best advice would probably be: make sure you have a third party,” Stefani said, before pointing upwards to indicate she was talking about God.

Stefani has long expressed her belief that God played a role in bringing her and Shelton together. They met while both were going through divorces.

“Meeting my husband felt like a second chance at life,” she told The Guardian. “Because when my family fell apart, it felt like a catastrophe. How do you pick yourself up from that? But God put this other person there to love me.”

Blake Shelton said his relationship with Gwen Stefani didn’t make sense without God

Shelton agrees with Stefani’s belief that God brought them together. He said that the way their relationship began convinced him of this.

“I believe in God now more than I ever have in my life,” Shelton told The Tennessean. “The biggest part of that is just how (Gwen) came into my life and now our relationship. It’s just too weird. If you take God out of it, it doesn’t make sense. If you put God into it, everything that’s happened with us makes sense.”

Shelton built Stefani a chapel on their Oklahoma property where they got married.

He said their marriage has made him more religious

Stefani has always been very Catholic, and her faith has rubbed off on Shelton. He said his relationship with her has made him more religious.

“Honestly, looking back, under the circumstances that Gwen and I fell in love with each other and got together, that alone was all the proof I needed, you know? She has such a strong faith in God,” he told Country Radio Seminar. “If Gwen was sitting here right now, she would go, ‘God, and then everything else.’ Everything else. That’s No. 1 in her life and has been her whole life.”

While he said Stefani’s faith is something very personal to her, it still influenced him.

“She doesn’t beat you over the head with it. That’s her relationship,” he said. “I’ve learned a lot from Gwen about a lot of things. Just really watching her, and learning from her, and learning how she thinks, and how she treats people, and how she just operates in her life. Naturally, I start seeing the God in everything, you know? Because she does.”
