Gwen Stefani Realized Things ‘Had to Change’ in Her Relationship With Blake Shelton

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have spoken about their romance like it’s a fairy tale, but they’ve reportedly hit their fair share of bumps in the road. Both have busy schedules, and it began to take a toll on their relationship. Stefani decided something needed to change for the sake of their marriage.

Both Shelton and Stefani have successful careers that take them away from home for stretches of time. Stefani reportedly decided she need to focus on spending more time with her husband.  

“Gwen saw the signs,” a source told Life and Style. “They were spending too much time apart, so she decided things had to change.”

The source said the couple would take both their schedules into consideration before taking a job. They also wanted to have more family dinners and take a trip as a couple. They felt confident these changes would benefit their marriage.

“Gwen and Blake have had their ups and downs,” the source said. “But they are committed to making their relationship work.”

The couple will celebrate their fourth wedding anniversary on July 3.

She admitted she felt insecure in the relationship at times

Stefani and Shelton have been together for a decade, but she said she still has had concerns about their future.

“I had been going through those times where you’re questioning: ‘Oh my gosh, am I just getting older? Am I cute?’” Stefani told Nylon. “In my own relationship, even though I know the truth of what’s happening today, you still create drama in your own mind about your insecurities and what might happen. I was in that phase of the relationship with Blake and getting paranoid.”

He admitted to feeling the same way.

“It’s an insecurity we both have,” Shelton said. “These are conversations that she and I have with each other: ‘Are you still going to love me when I’m old or if I forget who I am?’”

Stefani said she has had to work to stop worrying.

“The truth is I am in love with my best friend,” she said, “and all this s*** I’m thinking of in my brain, that’s all it is — I’m overthinking.”

Ultimately, the couple’s relationship seems to be strong. Shelton spoke about how much he enjoys Stefani’s company.

“She’s my best friend; that’s the best way I know to say it, and it’s not something that we have to really think about — it’s just there,” he told Access Hollywood. “And we have fun with it — maybe that’s the key. We have so much fun together. Whether we’re having a cup of coffee in the morning, watching a movie, or performing in an arena somewhere.”

He said he only has one regret with regard to his romance.

“We literally just have so much fun together, and the only regret that we have is that we didn’t find each other until late in life, you know?” he said. “But [we] also know that we had to go through everything we went through to get us to there. But we’re just grateful, and we have fun.”
