Halle Berry Claps Back After David Justice Said She Didn’t ‘Seem Motherly’
David Justice may have just made a massive mistake. The former MLB superstar hasn’t spent a ton of time doing interviews in recent years. Sure, he’s sat for interviews here and there since his MLB career ended in 2002, but it seems he was especially rusty during a recent sit-down. Justice recently made comments about his ex-wife, Halle Berry, that aren’t sitting right with anyone. Halle Berry’s fans are offended on her behalf; Berry herself isn’t willing to just let David Justice’s remarks slide. While she hasn’t issued an official statement, her social media clapback says it all.
David Justice claims his marriage to Halle Berry ended because she didn’t seem “motherly”
David Justice has been married twice. His second marriage, which is still going strong, began just as his MLB career was coming to a close. His first marriage, to actor Halle Berry, occurred during the prime of his career. Berry and Justice married in 1993 after just five months of dating and called it quits in 1997. At that time, and over the years, there has been considerable speculation about what caused the split. Justice tried to explain it during an August 7 appearance on All the Smoke, a podcast hosted by Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson.
During the conversation, Justice said his “midwestern” upbringing largely informed his view of marriage, and noted that Berry didn’t align with that image. He explained that she didn’t cook or clean and did not seem particularly “motherly.” While Justice tried to take ownership, claiming he was “immature” at the time, his comments felt like a massive dig at his ex-wife. She has sort of responded.
Halle Berry seems to clap back at David Justice’s comments
Halle Berry doesn’t often speak about her marriage to David Justice. She’s lived a lot of life since then. She has had several serious relationships, become a mother, and starred in many movies. She did make an exception, sort of, following Justice’s comments. Berry used her 59th birthday as an opportunity to offer a retort. In an Instagram post, Berry shared photos of a tropical getaway, looking stunning, relaxed, and joyful. She captioned the upload “Phew! Cooking, Cleaning, and Mothering.” The photo also included a picture of a card with the word “mom” scrolled across the envelope. The update was clearly a clapback at Justice’s oddly timed and frankly archaic comments.
Berry followed up that post with one more upload. In the lead-off photo, she blows a kiss at the camera. The captioned thanks her fans for their birthday wishes. She added, “Ya’ll ride for me and it makes me feel so good.” While she didn’t mention Justice’s podcast appearance, the caption seems to be referencing the backlash Justice received.
While we don’t know if Berry cooks or cleans her house, we do know she’s a mother. Berry has two children. Her daughter, Nahla Ariela Aubry, was born in 2008. Her son, Maceo Robert Martinez, was born in 2013. Berry is currently dating Van Hunt. He was featured in the social media post looking like he was OK with whatever Berry wanted to do, even if it didn’t include cooking, cleaning, or mothering.
