Halle Berry has finally debuted the gown fans were deprived of seeing when the star said she had to switch it out in order to stay in line with the new rules and dress code for the official Cannes Film Festival premiere red carpets.

Just before the Cannes events kicked off, attendees were informed that the 78th edition of the annual festival had put in place a “no-nudity and no large train” dress policy. The official Cannes Film Festival charter read: “For decency reasons, nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other area of the festival. Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theater, are not permitted. The festival welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit red carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules.”

Berry revealed that she has a gown she planned to wear but had to switch it out because the train was too large, telling The Hollywood Reporter: “I had an amazing dress by Gupta that I cannot wear tonight because it’s too big of a train. I’m not going to break the rules.”

But Berry has since been able to debut that “amazing” dress everyone wanted to see, and it did not disappoint.

Berry debuts stunning gown she couldn’t wear previously

On May 19, the Catwoman actor donned a Gaurav Gupta maroon corset couture gown to the Chopard Universe Gala Evening.

The head-turning number featured a strapless bodice and floor-length skirt with a high slit and long train. She paired the dress with matching satin pointed-toe pumps and accessorized with dangling earrings that included maroon-colored gems.

Berry was able to wear the dress to the Gala since it was not part of the official Cannes Film Festival red carpet premiere events.

For the record, the Oscar winner did seem to be in favor of the new “no-nudity” rule, saying: “The nudity part is also probably a good rule.”

Cannes press officers did previously offer an explanation for that rule, insisting: “The aim is not to regulate attire per se, but to prohibit full nudity on the red carpet in accordance with the institutional framework of the event and French law.”

One star who did break the new dress code rule on the premiere red carpet was Heidi Klum.

The former America’s Got Talent judge and Project Runway host arrived on the red carpet at the Cannes opening ceremony and Partir Un Jour (Leave One Day) screening rocking a Elie Saab Haute Couture strapless pink gown. It featured a high leg slit with blooming flower detailing down the entire dress which flowed out into a train that was clearly too long for the new Cannes dress code.

However, it did not appear that Klum was stopped by anyone on the festival’s welcoming teams who were tasked with enforcing the new rules.
