Former reality TV star Kristin Cavallari and retired NFL quarterback Jay Cutler tied the knot in 2013. But publicly announced in April 2020 that they had filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences” and “inappropriate marital conduct.” Their divorce was finalized in 2022.

Cavallari called their relationship “toxic” and “unhealthy” and said that the reason she ended her reality series, Very Cavallari, is because she didn’t want any of their serious marital problems on camera.

But during an episode of her series Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour on June 18, she talked about launching her lifestyle brand Uncommon James and claimed, “I’ve never taken any outside funding. I have never gotten a penny from my ex-husband.”

The former football star countered what his ex said and shared exactly how he feels about that on a recent episode of his Take It Outside podcast.

“Let’s think about this logically,” he began. “‘Not a penny.’ OK. Married for, I don’t know, seven years or so, three kids. You can go and see how much I made in the NFL. It’s online. You can see the contract from year to year and the total amount at the end of 12 years. So, you go to divorce and each side gets a lawyer, and then you go to court and there’s a judge.”

Cutler earned more than $125 million during his career. He explained there’s “not a judge in the state of Tennessee” that would have signed off on a divorce agreement in which he would be able to “keep every single dollar” he made while they were married.

He added that he thought Cavallari’s comments were “irresponsible. I think it’s reckless. I think it’s borderline slander to insinuate that there was zero dollars split during the marriage that each side got. It’s insanity. It’s completely false, completely untrue. It is, it just is. I’ve got a divorce decree. I’ve got something that’s signed by the judge — it’s like, 67 pages — it says the number breakdown.”

When his podcast co-host, Sam Mackey, asked if the money Cavallari received was “enough to live comfortably for the rest of your life on,” Cutler replied: “Without an absolute doubt.”
