Lamar Odom has had a pretty tumultuous relationship with drugs and alcohol over the years. Since rising to fame, first as a power forward in the NBA and, later, as a reality TV star after marrying Khloe Kardashian, Odom’s substance abuse issues have been on full display. Earlier this month, he was arrested, once again, for driving under the influence, and now he’s checking into rehab. It will be his third public stint in a rehab facility.

Lamar Odom’s NBA career and marriage were the primary focus of media coverage about him until 2013. In 2013, after an arrest in California for driving under the influence, Odom checked into a rehab facility. It was the first public confirmation that he had an issue with substance abuse. 

The arrest happened in August 2013 in the San Fernando Valley. According to court records, Odom was pulled over for reckless driving after he was observed driving too slowly on a freeway and failing to maintain his lane. He refused a field sobriety test. Odom checked into a private treatment center days later, but left early. He later pleaded no contest to the DUI charge.

While Lamar Odom’s 2015 medical emergency was the result of drug use, most outlets have focused almost entirely on the medical rehabilitation he had to undergo. The former athlete spent months in the hospital after overdosing inside a Nevada brothel. According to reports, he had been partying with sex workers for days before the overdose.

During an interview for Kevin Hart’s Laugh Out Loud, Odom revealed that he had multiple strokes and heart attacks. Doctors did not expect him to walk again. While he went through months of physical rehabilitation, he was offered addiction recovery support as well. Later, he revealed that he had worked with structured recovery programs even after he was released from the hospital, though he appeared to focus his attention on outpatient care instead of inpatient treatment. 

Lamar Odom is headed to rehab for marijuana addiction 

Lamar Odom’s latest rehab stint, once again, aligns with an arrest. Earlier this month, Odom was arrested in Las Vegas on suspicion of DUI after police pulled him over for speeding. According to reports, officers noticed the stench of marijuana wafting from the car, with Odom claiming he had partaken earlier in the day. He was arrested and charged with DUI. He was also cited for speedingl.

A week later, TMZ has reported that Odom has opted to check into a rehabilitation facility to address his marijuana usage. According to his manager, the former NBA star is now concerned that his marijuana usage could lead to harder drug use. Odom will stay at IRely Recovery for a 30-day program. He has been connected to the facility in the past. Odom denies having used harder drugs and alcohol before the arrest.
