Inside Mariah Carey’s Legendary New York City Penthouse She’s Selling for $27 Million
One of the most iconic penthouses in all of New York City has hit the market. So if you have an extra $27 million lying around, Mariah Carey‘s longtime Tribeca home can be yours.
But just what do you get for that price tag? Here are all the details on the “We Belong Together” singer’s pad and a peek inside.
Carey’s penthouse was made famous on ‘MTV Cribs’
The Queen of Christmas is selling the penthouse she showed off during a memorable episode of MTV Cribs on Jan 7, 2002.
In 1999, Carey purchased two apartments at 90 Franklin Street–a $5.5 million penthouse and the $3.5 million unit below it–and combined them into one triplex. She worked with interior decorator Mario Buatta to design the space.
The three-floor apartment boasts eight bedrooms, seven full bathrooms, and three half bathrooms. It features a grand foyer, limestone and bronze-plated floors, and a Turkish-style banquette large enough to host a dinner party. Marilyn Monroe‘s white baby grand piano, which Carey purchased at auction for over $600,000–occupies a prime spot in the living room.
Some of the home’s other amenities include panoramic windows with clear views of the Manhattan skyline, a gym, a movie theatre that doubles as an aquarium, and a large rooftop terrace.
“Out here, you can see the Empire State Building,” Carey said about the terrace, per Realtor.com. “When I was little, I always wanted a penthouse apartment in New York with a view like this.”
According to the listing description, “The residence [is] defined by scale, light, and flexibility. [It] spans the top three floors of one of downtown Manhattan’s most sought-after addresses, offering over 12,700 square feet of interior space [and] 1,100 square feet of private outdoor space.”
The penthouse is being sold as one unit. However, the description adds that there is an opportunity for a “developer or design-minded buyer” to separate it back into two separate apartments, noting that the “16th floor can function independently.”
Carey invited cameras into her Manhattan residence again in 2017 for a peek at her massive closet.
Carey’s rented mansions
Carey has been known to rent properties on the West Coast from time to time.
She sold her Bel-Air estate that she shared with ex-husband NickCannon in 2015, and when she began seeing Australian billionaire James Packer, they leased a Mediterranean-style home in the gated Oaks community in Calabasas for $250,000 per month. The 18,000-square-foot estate sat on one acre of land and featured six bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a movie theater, sauna, and home gym.
After their split, the “Touch My Body” songbird leased a 10,300-square -foot Beverly Hills abode with eight bedrooms and eight bathrooms. The Mediterranean-style home was reportedly once rented by Carey’s foe Nicki Minaj as well, for $35,000 a month. It has a grand entryway, high ceilings, open-plan living and dining rooms, an eat-in kitchen, and an expansive family room with plenty of windows. French doors lead outside to a massive space complete with an outdoor kitchen, terraces, and a swimming pool and spa.
