Jax Taylor Found It ‘Hurtful’ When His Bar Was Renamed in Honor of Estranged Wife Brittany Cartwright
In 2023, Jax Taylor partnered with a Los Angeles bar to open Jax’s Studio City. He and his estranged wife, Brittany Cartwright, worked to open it together. Taylor stated that while the bar was in his name, she had just as much involvement in it as he did. Amid the couple’s separation, Taylor went to a mental health facility, and his The Valley co-stars jokingly renamed the bar Britt’s. During the show’s season two finale, Taylor said he found this insulting.
Jax Taylor partnered with a bar in Los Angeles
In Oct. 2023, Taylor partnered with Rocco’s Tavern to open Jax’s Studio City. He described the bar as a “laid-back, family-friendly” environment. The bar’s structure already existed, so all Taylor and Cartwright had to do was decorate.
“We were able to just take it over and change the way it looks,” Cartwright told People.
They included items such as Jax’s Burger and Cartwright’s recipe for “Mamaw’s Beer Cheese.” She joked that while the bar had Taylor’s name, she did more to get it ready for the grand opening.
“Do you think Jax is handy? Me and Jax’s sister Jenny [Cauchi] put in the whole succulent wall by ourselves,” she said. “We went to the Home Depot and got all the flowers, went to succulent shops and picked up everything. Just running around like crazy.”
“I stand around and point,” Taylor added. “I drive my little golf cart here. It’s a lot of fun.”
Jax didn’t like that they temporarily renamed it in honor of Brittany Cartwright
Before their separation, Taylor said he was proud of Cartwright’s equal involvement in the bar.
“I know in the past I said that owning a bar is basically a marriage killer, but the difference is [Brittany is] involved just as much as I am,” he said, per Bravo. “We have 100% say in what is going on, and she is doing the decorating.”
Despite this, he felt insulted when the name reflected this, even temporarily. On the second season of The Valley, cast members renamed the establishment “Britt’s Bar.” In a joint Instagram post, Zack Wickham and Nia Sanchez said the temporary bar makeover was “all in good fun.” They included a poll asking if the bar should permanently have the name “Britt’s,” and 96% of responders voted yes.
During the season two reunion, Taylor shared his thoughts on this.
“Who wouldn’t be upset?” he said. “I understand why they did it. It was really — it was hurtful, obviously.”
Host Andy Cohen said the cast was just trying to “prop [Cartwright] up” amid her ongoing divorce from Taylor.
Jax Taylor parted ways with his bar
In 2025, Taylor announced he was stepping away from Jax’s Studio City to focus on his health.
“I’ve made the decision to end my partnership with Jax’s,” he wrote. “It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was the right one. Right now, my focus is on my sobriety and mental health, and staying connected to my bar is no longer in line with the priorities I’ve set for myself and the life I’m working towards.”
