Jennifer Lopez Admitted Ben Affleck Divorce Taught Her She Has to Change if She Wants a ‘Successful Relationship’

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck finalized their divorce in 2025. This came after the very public rekindling and subsequent breakdown of their relationship. Affleck likes to avoid public attention, but understood that Lopez lives her life in the public eye. After her divorce, though, Lopez said she wants a bit more privacy. She also said she realized she needs to make changes to have a successful marriage.

Lopez said that when she rekindled her relationship with Affleck, she wanted people to know about their happiness.

“I feel that the right person who can handle that and… I think I made mistakes… in the sense that I live my life very out loud… even though I’m in the public eye,” she said on The Howard Stern Show (per The Daily Mail). “And I wanted to share my life with someone. I want someone to be there to share my big, important moments on the red carpet.”

After the very public breakdown of her relationship in 2024, though, Lopez thinks she’ll try to keep things more private in the future.

“So I didn’t hide from it. And I spoke about it,” she said. “And I think now, after what’s happened in the past few years to me and to my children, I feel like… I just want to keep that part so much more quiet in my life.”

While she likes to share parts of herself with the public, she thinks that will have to change if she wants a successful romance in the future.

“When you have this level of fame, there is a compromise… cause it’s a very blessed life… that one of the trade-offs… you have to learn to navigate your personal life and my personal life has suffered at times because of that,” she said. “And now I realize that you have to change, you have to change your behavior… if you want to have a successful relationship in your life.”

For now, though, Lopez said she’s happy being single.
