Jennifer Lopez has been famous for years, but Barbra Streisand has been in the public eye for several decades longer than her. Streisand’s career began in the 1960s, and she was a major star years before people knew about Lopez. Still, Streisand once turned to Lopez for advice about fame. Lopez said the other artist’s question left her feeling dumbfounded.

Jennifer Lopez shared the surprising question Barbra Streisand asked her

Lopez met Streisand in the early 2000s. Lopez was engaged to Ben Affleck at the time, and Streisand asked to see her massive pink diamond ring.

“I met her twenty-something years ago when I was with Ben and I had the pink diamond ring,” she said on The Howard Stern Show (per Billboard). “And she was fascinated with the diamond ring, so she talked to me. She was like, ‘can I see your ring?’”

As Streisand admired the ring, she asked Lopez a question about fame. While the latter couldn’t remember Streisand’s exact question, she could recall how it made her feel.

“I remember she asked about, ‘how do you do it… the fame?’ And I think to myself, ‘Is Barbra Streisand asking me how do I deal with the fame?’” she said. “It was a surreal moment and I don’t know what I said. Something stupid, probably, because I was dumbstruck and starstruck at the same time.”

At that point, though, Lopez was one of the biggest figures in pop culture, with her music, films, and relationship dominating media coverage.
