Over the last several years, actors, musicians, and D-list celebrities have found a new revenue stream behind paywalls. Several stars have opted to bring their own spicy projects to OnlyFans, a platform that is best known for its premium adult content. Teen Mom stars Farrah Abraham and Jenelle Evans work on the platform. Iggy Azalea and Bella Thorne make millions on the platform, too. While there is cash to be made, it isn’t without risks. Jessie Cave, who played Lavender Brown in the Harry Potter series, recently discovered that not everyone is understanding of the OnlyFans platform. She says she wasn’t invited to a fan convention because of her mostly innocent participation on the platform.

Jessie Cave wasn’t invited to a fan convention because she creates content for OnlyFans

Jessie Cave, best known for her role in the final three Harry Potter movies, recently took to her Substack to share an event that baffled her. Cave, who has shifted her focus away from acting into other creative avenues, revealed she had recently been banned from appearing at a fan convention. According to the actor, the convention organizers noted that their “family-friendly” event did not welcome actors who were creators on OnlyFans.

Cave admits that she does, in fact, have an OnlyFans account, but none of her content is overtly sexual. Cave keeps things PG-13, with the bulk of her content focused on her playing with her long locks. While Cave said she understands what the platform is typically used for, her content is no less family-friendly than most movies or TV shows, if viewed objectively. In fact, according to Collider, Cave argues that other actors have done more explicit sex scenes in film than she has on OnlyFans. At the end of the day, Cave says she’s just playing with her hair.

OnlyFans is synonymous with adult entertainment, but not everything is explicit

Jessie Cave believes her lack of invitation to a fan convention is troubling. She says she is being punished for existing on a content creation platform, despite the content she actually creates. While Cave might not be creating explicit content herself, the reputation of OnlyFans is pretty far-reaching. Is she right, though? Are there many non-explicit creators on the platform? Yes and no.

While the founders of OnlyFans have tried to distance themselves from the pornography connection, it’s nearly impossible to do so. There is a good reason for that. The platform became popular for NSFW content, and most creators on the platform, in fact, are churning out explicit content. According to ZipDo, of the 2 million creators on the platform, approximately 80% categorize their content as adult entertainment. While that’s a considerable percentage, that still means the platform houses 400,000 creators who are creating non-explicit content. Cave says she’s one of those creators.

Non-explicit creators in recent years have migrated to different platforms to escape the OnlyFans stigma. Patreon, for example, remains a popular paywall content platform that doesn’t have the porn stigma.
