For someone spending at least a decade behind bars for crimes against children, Josh Duggar sure had a lot to say about the people in his social circle and family. In a series of now-released jailhouse messages, Josh Duggar begs his wife Anna for spicy photos and comments on the “narcissists” he hopes will stay away from her during a family wedding. Duggar family critics can’t help but wonder who he is referencing.

Josh Duggar’s emails reveal he and his wife talk trash about the rest of the Duggars

Josh Duggar might have been awaiting his fate back in 2022 after being convicted of receiving and possessing child pornography. That wasn’t the only thing on his mind, though. Anna and Josh Duggar were in regular communication after he was remanded to the Washington County Detention Center to await sentencing. Now, their emails and texts from that time are public knowledge. Josh’s take on many topics has been more than a little shocking.

Duggar family followers found his take on his family especially interesting. In a March 2022 message obtained by People, Josh opened up to Anna about her plans to travel to Nebraska for a Duggar family wedding. In the message, he lamented about his FOMO before referencing “narcissists” in the family, saying he hoped they would stay far away from his wife. He didn’t name anyone specifically, but it’s clear he was referring to certain family members. The way his messages are written also suggests that he and Anna may have regularly discussed the psychology buzzword and who they believed fit the criteria long before he was locked up. Family critics find it ironic that Josh is assigning such a label to others. The couple’s dynamic also suggest they might have spent a fair bit of time talking trash about Josh’s siblings.

What wedding was Josh referencing?

The email in which Josh mentions “narcissists” was sent around the time Anna traveled to Nebraska to witness the marriage of Jeremiah Duggar and Hannah Wissmann. They said “I do” near Hannah’s Nebraska hometown on March 26, 2022 — the first Duggar wedding following Josh’s conviction. Based on the messages Anna sent, it was also the first wedding she attended without Josh by her side.

Since then, Anna has attended several Duggar family events without her incarcerated husband. Still, she has largely stayed out of photos. Her children, however, have been spotted in photos and videos from large family gatherings, such as Jana Duggar’s 2024 wedding. It is unclear what kind of conversations Josh is having with Anna from federal lockup now. They are surely less frequent, though. He no longer has the same access to email and text services that he had while awaiting sentencing.

Josh will not be released from federal prison until February 2033. Anna and the seven children she shares with Josh remain in Arkansas, where she is running a dog breeding business. In an odd coincidence, Anna returned to social media just one month before another Duggar family scandal made headlines.
