Josh Duggar Talks ‘False Accusations’ Following His Brother’s Arrest for Lewd and Lascivious Behavior
The Duggar family is dealing with another sex abuse scandal. It has apparently made Josh Duggar, the family’s first convicted sexual predator, eager to chat. While Duggar family followers hadn’t heard a peep from Josh Duggar since he was convicted of possessing and receiving child pornography back in 2021, he’s using his brother’s arrest to further his own agenda. He released a statement through a lawyer following Joseph Duggar’s arrest, claiming he undertands what it feels like to be “falsely accused.”
Josh Duggar talks about ‘false accusations’ after Joseph Duggar’s arrest
Disgraced Duggar, Josh, is seizing the opportunity to speak on his own behalf, now that the world has refocused on the Duggar family. The convicted felon’s lawyer, Beau Brindley, shared a statement about Joseph’s arrest, though he didn’t have much to say about Joseph directly. Speaking with People, Brindley claims that Josh Duggar “ sympathizes with the suffering that the public spectacle of criminal accusations creates.”
The lawyer went on to allege that Josh Duggar has experience with being “falsely” accused, though he claimed the convict could not speak on the guilt or innocence of his younger brother. The statement also alleged that he felt for his brother, who was experiencing his “lowest” moment. The statement seemed more about proclaiming his innocence than about addressing the new, very serious allegations levied against his brother.
Brindley is new to Josh Duggar’s case. The Illinois-based lawyer joined Duggar’s team earlier this month. Josh was represented by Justin Gelfand during his 2021 trial and the early rounds of his appeal. Josh had previously claimed he was destitute during a filing seeking a public defender just last year. How he’s funding his newest defense is unclear.
Josh Duggar tries to distance himself from Joseph Duggar
In an odd twist, Josh Duggar claims he has not been “close” to Joseph Duggar in some time. Clearly, the eldest Duggar would like to distance himself from the allegations against Joseph, though it’s impossible to truly distance himself from Joseph. Interestingly, Joseph is among the few siblings who have been spotted visiting his older brother in lockup.
Back in March 2024, the U.S. Sun reported that Joseph Duggar, along with Anna Duggar’s brother-in-law, David Waller, were spotted at FCI Seagoville. The visit took place right around the eldest Duggar sibling’s birthday. It is unclear what compelled Joseph to visit, but it’s a rather long trip from his Arkansas home. David Waller, a pastor, lives about an hour’s drive from the federal lockup. Joseph’s Arkansas home is more than four hours from the facility.
Joseph also referenced his brother during his own intake, suggesting they maintain at least some significant connection. In a booking video, the 31-year-old joked that he’d never been on that side of the jail before, and noted that his “brother” had been in trouble before. The only one of his nine brothers who has had legal dealings is Josh.
