After images showed Perry and Trudeau out together in July, a relationship blossomed between them. Though she has been touring, they were still able to build on their budding romance.
“Justin keeps making a big effort to see her, and she’s excited about it,” a source told People, adding, “It’s exactly what she needs right now.”
Perry didn’t expect a new romance so soon after ending her engagement to Orlando Bloom. She’s found that Trudeau is a good fit for her, though.
“They both have busy schedules but make time for each other and have a really strong connection,” the source said. “Katy didn’t expect to fall for somebody so soon, but Justin checks all the boxes. He has a great sense of humor; he’s charming and treats her with respect.”
The couple recently celebrated Perry’s birthday together in Paris.
They have grown serious quickly
Speculation about a relationship between Perry and Trudeau heated up over the summer, but they only recently made things official. In the months between their first joint sighting and now, they’ve reportedly gotten serious.
“This relationship is already fairly serious and definitely moving in that direction,” a Canadian political source told People. “They are very much a couple and have been seeing each other as often as possible.”
Trudeau’s effort to see Perry during her tour seems to have made all the difference for them.

While reports now indicate that Perry and Trudeau have gotten serious, this was not their original intent. Perry was newly single, and Trudeau didn’t want to jump into anything. The immediate and widespread attention on his personal life reportedly surprised him.
“Justin didn’t know so many people would find out about the private dinner,” a source told People. “He was also surprised by the international interest and how it went through the roof for days.”
While the source noted that the couple was having fun and were attracted to each other, Trudeau didn’t want to live under the scrutiny that a pop star like Perry is accustomed to.
“As long as [media coverage] goes his way, then he’s fine,” the source said, noting, “he would prefer it more low-key.”
Still, sources have noted that Trudeau seems happier after the difficulties of his divorce and resignation as prime minister. Perry has reportedly added to this sense of contentment.
