Kate Hudson Was ‘Gutted’ After Jessie Buckley’s Name Was Announced as the Winner for Best Actress
Hamnet star Jessie Buckley took home the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 98th Academy Awards. Her fellow nominees included Emma Stone for her role in Bugonia, Renate Reinsve for Sentimental Value, Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, and Kate Hudson for her role in Song Sung Blue.
An expert pointed out how emotional Hudson looked after Buckley’s name was announced as the winner, insisting that the Almost Famous actress was “gutted.”

Speaking on behalf of Covers, Stanton told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “Jessie Buckley’s response to winning was absolutely authentic and from the heart. She put her hands over her face, an instant and genuine response to her feelings in that moment. She appeared genuinely in awe of winning … She was almost shaking with excitement and shock, which is a very genuine response. Her posture was also straight, and she was gripping the Oscar because it clearly means so much to her.
“Analyzing the other nominees, Kate Hudson appeared to flash massive disappointment. The moment Jessie’s name was announced, Kate’s nose crinkled and she had an upturned mouth, which is called a horseshoe smile. That was basically Kate’s initial response to losing — she seemed gutted. While she did appear happy for Jessie, she seemed to be the most disappointed out of the other Best Actress nominees.”
