When the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) presented the 2025 Queen Elizabeth Award, a prize for designers leading the way in terms of sustainability and environmental awareness, people could not stop talking about her outfit.

On May 13, Prince William’s wife donned an olive green pantsuit by Victoria Beckham. Some fans found her outfit choice for the event interesting and are wondering if it was a message to Meghan Markle. That’s because it’s believed that the duchess’s decisions to wear some of Beckham’s outfits following their alleged fallout, have been Meghan’s way of sending the designer an olive branch. Like when she sported a top from her fashion collection during a visit to Colombia in 2024.

Beckham, however, has not acknowledged the former Suits star and remains very tight with the royal family, which is why some feel Kate was sending Meghan a message.

While we’re quite sure if that’s the case, a body language expert is sharing the message he noticed the princess trying to convey with her color choice.

Expert shares the message Kate was sending with her pantsuit

Darren Stanton is a body language and behavioral expert with a degree in psychology. He previously worked as a police officer and used his expertise to uncover the truth when interviewing hundreds of suspects. He later moved into media and TV as a consultant and has been dubbed the “Human Lie Detector.”

Speaking on behalf of Betfair Slots, Stanton told Showbiz Cheat Sheet: “What is most striking is the color choices in her outfit. It may be buried very deep in our subconscious mind, but the colors we choose to wear very often reflect our emotions. She is wearing green, which is a color of growth, renewal, and rejuvenation. It also fits the setting, presenting a design award which is centred around creation.”

He added: “We always get very genuine emotions from Kate and her smiles here were no different. You could see the crow’s feet and smile lines, and her entire face was totally engaged. They say eyes are the windows to the soul and her eyes are full of life, vibrancy, and happiness.

“There are also a lot of open palm gestures from her. This shows Kate as being open, welcoming and confident. Her movements throughout the presentation were also very smooth, controlled, and relaxed. This just demonstrates how comfortable she is at these kinds of events.”

The 1 color the princess doesn’t wear

There’s one color that the Princess of Wales hardly ever wears, and that is orange.

Kate did wear an orange-colored blouse underneath a white Alexander McQueen suit when she and William visited Jamaica in 2022, as well as a slightly more subdued orange knit dress. But up until that point, she steered clear of the color and only wore hues anywhere near the shade two other times. Once was when she was pregnant with Prince George and sported a peach coat, and another time was when she donned a blood-orange jacket. However, the latter was more of a red tone.

Color analyst Gabriella Winters of the Colour Analysis & Image Consultancy Chromology U.K., told Hello! Magazine that the reason Kate doesn’t wear orange is probably because the princess knows which colors complement her skin tone and which don’t, explaining: “People absorb and reflect the same colors differently depending on their unique biological makeup. When a color is placed adjacent to your face, it will reflect its wavelength onto you. Yellowish or greenish casts from too-warm colors are common, greyish or reddish casts from too-cool colors are also typical.”

Showbiz Cheat Sheet acknowledges that conditions and cultures can impact body language and is sensitive to all backgrounds.
