Before wrapping up their second state visit, U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump attended a state dinner hosted by the royals at Windsor Castle.

For the event, Melania wore a long, striking yellow off-the-shoulder gown designed by Carolina Herrera. The Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) dazzled in a floor-length, butter yellow Phillipa Lepley dress and completed her look with her famous Lover’s Knot Tiara.

During the dinner, President Trump took the time to compliment Kate, saying that he and Melania were “delighted” to see her looking “so radiant, so healthy, and so beautiful.”

Here’s how the princess reacted to the POTUS’ words, plus a few details you may not have known about Kate’s tiara, which Princess Diana wore for several state occasions as well.

Kate wowed in $1 million tiara as Donald Trump gushed over the ‘radiant’ princess

The princess, who was seated next to Donald Trump during the dinner, is now in remission from cancer after battling the disease in 2024. When the president referenced her health and beauty in his speech, she graciously flashed him a bright smile.

As for Kate’s tiara, the fine jewelry and diamond experts at the U.K. retailer Steven Stone took a closer look at the stunning headpiece and revealed everything there is to know about the royal diadem.

Maxwell Stone told Showbiz Cheat Sheet: “The Princess of Wales chose to wear the Lover’s Knot Tiara for the State Banquet. Originally designed for Queen Mary back in 1913, the dazzling diamond and pearl tiara was passed on to her granddaughter, Queen Elizabeth II.

“The late monarch reportedly presented it to Princess Diana for her royal wedding day in 1981, although she respectfully declined and opted to wear her father’s Spencer’s Family Tiara instead — despite this, the Lover’s Knot did become one of her favorite pieces. Following Diana’s death in 1997, the tiara wasn’t seen publicly until 2015, when Kate wore it at a reception at Buckingham Palace.”

The expert added, “Though an incredible piece, the tiara has its cons, and it’s claimed to have been so heavy that it hurt the late Princess of Wales’ head, giving her headaches — it’s also said to be noisy due to the swinging pearls. The fact that it’s so heavy that it hurt Princess Diana’s head indicates that it’s a valuable tiara, embellished with the finest quality diamonds and pearls. Though it’s difficult to put a price on such a historic and extravagant piece, I’d estimate it to carry a value of around $1.1 million.”

The Princess of Wales also paid tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth with her earrings

But the tiara wasn’t the only accessory Kate donned to the state banquet. She also wore a sparkling pair of earrings that previously belonged to her late grandmother-in-law.

Speaking about those earrings, Zack Stone said: “The Princess of Wales dazzled in a breathtaking pair of earrings that once belonged to Queen Elizabeth II. Each piece features brilliant-cut diamonds arranged in a floral and orbital motif, with a larger central stone anchoring the base of each pendant — a design that evokes both eternal elegance and the enduring legacy of the monarchy.

“The floral pattern symbolizes grace and renewal, while the orbit-like arrangement suggests unity, continuity, and the far-reaching influence of the crown. Perfectly suited for grand state occasions, lavish banquets, and ceremonial events, these earrings allow Kate to pair them effortlessly with tiaras and other treasured heirlooms. A true emblem of regal sophistication, this glittering pair are likely to be worth an astonishing $135,000.”
