Katy Perry: At Least 1 Celebrity Apologized for Making Fun of Her Blue Origin Space Trip
When Katy Perry went to space with Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos’ company, she became the subject of widespread derision. Even other celebrities criticized the trip as pointless and wasteful. Perry has hit back at her detractors amid the storm of bad press. At least one person has walked back their remarks. Singer Lily Allen publicly apologized to Perry.

Not long after the space trip, Allen shared her thoughts on it on her podcast Miss Me. She slammed it as completely out of touch.
“I mean, what the… hell was all that about?” Allen said, per the BBC. “I mean, in all seriousness, what? Why? For why? It’s so out of touch. Like, we’re on the brink of recession. People are really… struggling to make ends meet and put food on their tables.”
She also rolled her eyes at the attempt to make the brief trip “some sort of feminist thing.” In a subsequent episode of the podcast, Allen walked back her comments. While she still thought the space trip was wasteful, she didn’t think she should have targeted Perry specifically.
“There was actually no need for me to bring her name into it, and it was my own internalized misogyny,” Allen said. “I’ve been thinking about it a lot, and it was just completely unnecessary to pile on with her. I mean, I disagree with what it was that they did, but she wasn’t the only person that did it.”
After seeing Perry bear the brunt of the criticism, Allen felt sorry for joining in.
“She was possibly the most famous, and the one that divides people the most, and so there was something in me that decided to choose her as the person that should [be singled out],” she said. “Well, anyway, I’m just sorry. I would have been hurt if it had been me and someone in my industry used me and my name, and I saw that, and I’m sorry.”
Perry has described the backlash against her as “unhinged.”
