Following her split from Orlando Bloom, Katy Perry began dating Justin Trudeau. The pop star and former Canadian Prime Minister were reportedly trying to keep their romance low-key over the last several months, but Perry decided to share a new loved-up post with her beau that reveals a lot.

On April 7, the “Teenage Dream” artist posted a carousel of photos to her Instagram, including one in which she is staring up at Trudeau with her hand on his heart. Now, an expert says the look on Perry’s face in that shot is broadcasting exactly how she feels for Trudeau at this stage of their relationship.

Darren Stanton is a body language and behavioral expert with a degree in psychology. He previously worked as a police officer and used his expertise to uncover the truth when interviewing hundreds of suspects. He later moved into media and TV as a consultant and has been dubbed the “Human Lie Detector.”

Speaking on behalf of OLBG, Stanton told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, “In the image, Katy Perry is not looking at the camera and is gazing at Justin. She is looking at him adoringly with googly eyes, and her pupils are dilated. Her cheekbones are high up, and her facial expression is all about him. 

“Her hand is also on his shoulder, which indicates almost ‘You’re mine.’ This gesture is projecting that message to the world. And Katy also has her hand inside his jacket, which takes it to a whole new level. You very rarely see that gesture. They are incredibly connected.”

The expert added, “Justin is used to having to be professional. He’s a former politician, and he’s used to posing for headshots for the press. His smile is genuine, which helps balance out Katy’s big gestures. Overall, the dynamic works well. Katy is head over heels for him. They’re in their own little bubble and having fun. She’s not afraid to show PDA, and it shows they’re in a really good place.” 

Perry and Trudeau went Instagram official in December 2025 and since then, have been sharing a few bits and pieces of their private lives with fans.

A source recently told People that the two spend as much time together as they can while navigating their busy schedules, sharing, “Katy and Justin have had to be flexible to make the relationship work. They travel whenever they can to spend time together,” the insider added. “The long-distance dynamic was never a surprise to them.” Both of them “understood from the beginning that their lives were complicated and that it wouldn’t be the easiest relationship logistically but they really wanted to see where things could go and have been determined to make it work.”

Before Trudeau, Perry was engaged to Bloom, with whom she shares one daughter, Daisy. The former politician, meanwhile, shares three children with Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, whom he’s been separated from since 2023.
