In a recent performance that is baffling fans, Keith Urban sang a cover of Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club.” He performed at a private party at Mar-a-Lago, the resort owned by Donald Trump, who was in attendance. People criticized Urban for performing at the resort. They also noted he appeared to completely miss the point of the song.

Keith Urban recently performed Chappell Roan’s ‘Pink Pony Club’ at Mar-a-Lago

This month, Urban performed at a party at Mar-a-Lago hosted by Australian billionaire Anthony Pratt. Per USA Today, Pratt donated $10 million to Trump’s campaign for the 2024 election. He also gave $5 million to Trump’s “call to reindustrialize” the United States.

Footage from the event shows that Trump was in attendance. Urban reportedly played Bob Marley’s “Is This Love” and “Pink Pony Club.”

People are not happy with Keith Urban for his cover of the Chappell Roan song

“Pink Pony Club” is a song from Roan’s debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. It’s inspired by the Abbey, a gay bar in West Hollywood where Roan said she felt a sense of belonging after visiting. As many feel that gay rights came under threat after Trump took office, people felt the song choice was tone deaf.

“The song was written by a lesbian drag queen and it’s about her finding queer liberation for the first time once she escaped her conservative hometown,” wrote one Reddit user. “These people literally have zero media literacy and it actually pisses me tf off.”

Blake Shelton Offered Keith Urban ‘Tips and Support’ Amid Nicole Kidman Divorce

“Was this a deliberate act of sarcasm or was the whole act completely clueless?” wondered another person.

Urban is currently going through a divorce from his wife of 19 years, Nicole Kidman. Many people used this as an opportunity to take her side.

“Nicole is absolutely the winner in this divorce,” one person wrote. “In every sense.”

Still, some people wondered if Urban deliberately picked “Pink Pony Club” as a form of protest.

The ‘Pink Pony Club’ singer is not a fan of Donald Trump

Chappell Roan has not commented on the cover of her song at the party, but she has made her feelings about Trump clear in recent years.

“Hear it from my mouth, if you’re still wondering,” she said in TikTok. “No, I’m not voting for Trump and yes, I will always question those in power and those making decisions over other people. And I will stand up for what’s right and what I believe in. And like, it’s always at the forefront of my project.”

People criticized her for not directly endorsing Kamala Harris as a candidate. After the backlash, Roan clarified her comments, noting that while she had some issues with the Democratic candidate, she would be voting for Harris over Trump. These statements and her political advocacy led many fans to believe that she would not like that her music was played at a party at Mar-a-Lago.
