Kendall Jenner is featured in a Super Bowl ad that playfully leans into the theory of a “Kardashian curse.” In the ad for Fanatics Sportsbooks, she jokes that athletes she’s dated tend to hit career rough patches, and uses that idea as the premise for a tongue-in-cheek betting campaign. Jenner appears in the Super Bowl ad, but she’s never personally dated an NFL star. That doesn’t mean none of the Kardashian sisters have, though. While NBA stars are more common romantic partners for them, NFL stars have made the cut.

What is the Kardashian curse?

The Kardashian curse is a pop culture theory that suggests the Kardashians negatively affect the sports careers of the athletes they date. It’s not specific to the Kardashians, though. Over the years, many famous women have been blamed for their romantic partners’ poor athletic performance. Still, the Kardashian family has been blamed for the subpar performance of multiple men.

The idea that the Kardashians were a sports jinx began around 2010. It all began when Reggie Bush experienced a significant career slump after his romance with Kim Kardashian. The notion that a Kardashian curse existed solidified with Lamar Odom, James Harden, Tristan Thompson, and Kris Humphries, each experiencing on- and off-court struggles. Khloe and Kim are not the only Kardashians who are considered bad luck, either. As Kendall notes, many fans think she’s a jinx, too. In the ad, she hints at injuries and a drop in performance for Ben Simmons and Devin Booker. Both are NBA stars she seriously dated.

Have any of the Kardashians dated NFL stars?

It is no secret that the Kardashians seem to have a soft spot for athletes, but the sisters tend to date NBA stars rather than spend time with other professional athletes. That doesn’t mean it has never happened, though. Kendall Jenner’s Super Bowl ad is all about the curse, so has the Kardashian curse ever affected an NFL star? It looks like it.

While there are more NBA stars who have been involved with the Kardashians than NFL stars, there have been a few. Kim Kardashian is the only family member who has publicly dated an NFL star long-term. She famously dated Reggie Bush from 2007 until 2010. The romance was on and off over the years. After Bush, Kardashian briefly dated Miles Austin, but the romance took place in the NFL off-season. Kim was also rumored to be dating Odell Beckham Jr. multiple times over the years, but neither has ever confirmed the romance.

With three of the five Kardashian sisters currently single, there is always a chance an NFL star could be welcomed into the family. Only time will tell.
