Kim Kardashian Just Made Underwear Weird—And the Internet Can’t Decide If It’s Genius or Gross
Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS brand has made some pretty big moves in recent years. The company opened a flagship store, added products, and even released a collaboration with Nike. Not every single product decision SKIMS has made has been welcomed with open arms, though. Kim Kardashian is certainly turning heads right now with an underwear collection that features faux pubic hair, and the internet is utterly baffled by it. While most people agree that the product line is totally unnecessary, fans are divided on whether it’s funny or kind of gross.
SKIMS releases a thong with faux pubic hair and confuses the masses
Say what you want about Kim Kardashian, but the woman knows how to create a viral moment. Days ago, SKIMS, the shape and lounge wear company owned by Kardashian, dropped a retro ad campaign that questioned if the carpet matched the drapes. The campaign aims to promote a limited-edition underwear collection featuring fake pubic hair.
The Faux Hair Micro String Thong features a mesh thong tufted with realistic faux pubic hair. It is available in multiple hair textures and 12 skin tones, because wearing a pair that doesn’t match the drapes would be a serious faux pas. The thong isn’t much different than other string thongs available on the site, but the pubic hair has plenty of fans and critics scratching their heads. The panties, dubbed the “ultimate bush,” have some critics who think it’s gross, and others who think it’s utterly hilarious. Regardless of which side you fall on, almost everyone agrees it is completely unnecessary. It’s not the first time Kim Kardashian has caused a stir by featuring a body feature in her undergarments.
Kim Kardashian has previously paid homage to the nipple
While Kim Kardashian is currently all about pubic hair underwear, SKIMS has previously highlighted another body part. In 2023, the company released its now-infamous nipple bra and the pierced nipple variant. The bra features built-in faux nipples designed to give the appearance of a braless look. The design itself had plenty of people talking, but the marketing campaign, once again, pushed the product into viral territory.
The release came with a tongue-in-cheek ad campaign focused on climate change. The launch went viral across social media for its mix of humor, shock value, and plain sexiness. According to the Washington Post, the product sold out within days of its launch. All of the restocks have been similarly successful. While the faux thong probably won’t reach the same level of popularity, it certainly has given fans something to talk about, and its first run is already sold out.
