King Charles’ Brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Is Not Broke; Here’s How He Still Gets Money Today
The public has watched Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s fall from grace right in front of our eyes. King Charles’s younger brother was once a prominent member of the royal family, even after a few past scandals. But one that was unforgivable was Andrew’s association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and Virginia Guiffre’s claim that he had sex with her when she was a minor.
Andrew denied the allegation but the seriousness of it and a sit-down interview in which he came off as not believable, had the public calling for his titles to be stripped.
Andrew ended up stepping down from his public duties but with the dark cloud hanging over him, many thought that wasn’t enough. So in October, he announced that after consulting the king and others in the family, he would relinquish his Duke of York title.
Two weeks later, King Charles really came down with the hammer and stripped his brother of the prince title he was born with. The monarch also decided that his sibling needed to vacate the lavish 30-room Royal Lodge residence in Windsor Park, where he lived with his ex-Sarah Ferguson.
A statement from Buckingham Palace on the matter read: “[Andrew’s] lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease, and he will move to alternative private accommodation.
“These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him. Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”
The former duke will now move to a smaller property on the Sandringham estate that will be funded by the king, but Andrew is not broke like many people believe.
“I think it’s very telling that he’s being moved to a property on the Sandringham estate, because that’s owned privately by the Mountbatten Windsor family, which means no taxpayers are funding the property,” GB News Royal Correspondent, Cameron Walker, explained.
According to Andrew Lownie, who authored the bombshell book Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, while the disgraced royal no longer receives an allowance via the Sovereign Grant and King Charles cut off his private allowance in 2024 Andrew still gets a Royal Navy pension.
Lownie told the Sunday Morning podcast: “In terms of Andrew, he had his naval pension, he had £250,000 ($335,000) a year when he was trade envoy, I think the queen gave him $1 million a year, which is now gone but he has plenty of money.”
The author added: “He has been doing business deals for a long time now, about 30 years, with all sorts of regimes and characters so he is not short of a penny. I don’t think there is any worry about Andrew being able to afford his lifestyle.”
Reports indicate that Andrew will move into Marsh Farm in October 2026. It’s not yet known where his ex-wife plans to go.
