King Charles’ Brother, Andrew, Won’t Go Away Quietly and Now Wants the Monarch to Meet His Demands
With all the public pressure that had been mounting for years about how King Charles’ brother should no longer have his Duke of York title, Andrew finally gave up his dukedom.
On Oct. 17, he released a statement that read: “In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family. I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.
“With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”
But when more allegations linked Andrew to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, King Charles decided he had to come down harder on his sibling and remove his “prince” title as well as order him out of his lavish 30-room Royal Lodge estate.
Therefore, on Oct. 30, Buckingham Palace shared a statement that read: “His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew. Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation.
“These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him. Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”
It was reported that Andrew would relocate to a private home on the family’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk, but now the disgraced royal has changed his mind and is throwing his own demands back at the king before he vacates Royal Lodge.
Sources are saying that Andrew wants to be treated “fairly” and is now “reeling off demands and ultimatums” about his future living arrangements in Norfolk.
According to the insiders, Andrew is “demanding a substantial six or seven bedroom house on the Sandringham Estate, complete with staff including a cook, gardener, housekeeper, driver, and police security.”
One source told the Daily Beast’s Royalist that “Andrew has done exactly what has been asked of him, and he just wants to be left alone. He is giving up the lease on one of England’s finest houses and expects to be treated fairly.”
A former courtier claimed that when it comes to Andrew, it’s “always going to be about money,” adding that “Andrew is essentially being bought out of the lease, so he will haggle over every last detail of the deal.”
It’s believed that King Charles would be footing the bill for his brother’s new residence. But now with this sticking point, we’ll have to see how things play out.
