King Charles’ Brother Andrew’s New Home Is a Run-Down Empty Farm
Before King Charles stripped his brother, Andrew, of his titles, the disgraced royal was still living a lavish life in a mansion not far from Windsor Castle. That was until the king decided to bring down the hammer and not only strip Andrew of all his titles, but also order him out of Royal Lodge where he had been living for several years.
Buckingham Palace’s statement on the matter read: “His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew. Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.”
In addition to the prince title–given to him at birth–Andrew was also stripped of the titles of Earl of Inverness, Baron Killyleagh, the style “His Royal Highness,” and the honors of the Order of the Garter and Knight Grand Cross of the Victorian Order.
As for Andrew’s residence, in which he had a 75-year lease on the property that ran through 2078, the Palace shared that he and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, would vacate the home.
As the statement noted, “[Andrew’s] lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease, and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him. Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”
Royal Lodge is less than five miles from Windsor Castle. The home previously belonged to The Queen Mother until her death in 2002. In 2004, Andrew moved into the home with his two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, who were teenagers at the time.
Four years later, and despite no longer being married to Andrew, Sarah Ferguson started living there as well.
Like all other royal residences, Royal Lodge is massive. It has a total of 30 rooms boasting its own private chapel, a large conservatory, and separate living quarters for staffers. Before the family moved in, the Georgian house had extensive upgrades and renovations that included the installation of an indoor swimming pool.
But now, it’s being reported that Andrew’s new home is a far cry from his current one.
It was previously announced that the former Duke of York’s new residence would be a private property on the royal family’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk. Andrew’s new abode is an empty ramshackle farm. The sprawling but dilapidated Marsh Farm is located seven miles away from the king’s Sandringham House. It consists of a main house with two reception rooms, a kitchen, and outbuildings.
An insider told The Sun: “Andrew has been told he is off to Marsh Farm. It needs an awful lot of work to be done before it’s habitable.”
The vacant property is near a church as well as a former railway station, and views can stretch as far as the sea at The Wash.
