In an episode of the Hoopin’ N Hollerin’ podcast, former NBA players Patrick Beverly and Jason Williams discussed the Mavs’ 3-9 start to the season and Thompson’s loss of his starting spot. Williams wondered if Megan was the reason behind Thompson’s performance this season.
“I’m from West Virginia, man, I’ve been taught a lot from old folks, old white folks,” he said. “It only takes one p**** to drag a battleship across the desert. That’s how powerful it is. Klay Thompson, I ain’t sayin’ that’s what it is … but that might be what it is.”

Thompson caught wind of Williams’ comments and quickly made his anger clear. In the comments of an Instagram clip from the episode, Thompson addressed the remark.
“Referring to my GF as a ‘p***y’ is so disgusting and disturbing,” he wrote. “Especially from someone who played in the NBA. How would yall feel if I referred to your wives in such a way? @patbev21. Do better fellas. Very disappointing.”
People have praised Thompson for his support of his girlfriend.
“Good for Klay and I’m so glad he and Megan found one another,” wrote one Reddit user. “She deserves happiness and he is a real one. Yes. This makes me so happy for her.”
“The bar for men is on the floor, but at least Klay is clearing it easily,” added another person. “Happy for both him and Meg.”
People also pointed out that blaming Megan for Thompson’s performance was very unfair.
“Men will see a 35 year old man playing basketball not at the same level as his 24 year old coworkers and say ‘somehow this is a woman’s fault,’” wrote one person.

Megan and Thompson first sparked romance rumors in July, when she posted an Instagram photo with him in the background. They made their relationship official during their red carpet debut at the Inaugural Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala.
“Oh, we met and it was such a meet cute it was like a f***ing movie,” Megan told People. “I won’t tell you how and I won’t tell you when, but it was a movie.”
She said he stands out to her as her kindest boyfriend so far.
“[H]e’s the nicest person I’ve ever met in my life,” she said.
Since their red carpet debut, Thompson has made frequent appearances on Megan’s Instagram account, just as she has on his. In promotional images for her song “LOVER GIRL,” she posted a picture of herself holding hands with Thompson.
