The pop star has experienced a myriad of physical and mental health symptoms since rising to stardom in the early 2000s. While she has always been willing to talk about her troubles, Gaga just recently delved into how serious things got. During a recent interview, she revealed that she experienced a psychotic break at the height of her career. It got so bad, in fact, that she had to seek psychiatric treatment and cancel a part of her Joanne tour. Things are better now.

In 2017 and 2018, it seemed like Lady Gaga was on top of the world. She had been cast in a major movie, her music career was thriving, and she had a devoted fan base that wanted nothing more than to see her succeed. Behind closed doors, though, everything was falling apart. During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the beloved music artist chronicled the terrifying experience of finding career success at the detriment of her mental health. In fact, Lady Gaga insists he had a psychotic break while filming A Star Is Born and had to seek treatment. The mental health crisis also led to her decision to cancel several stops on her Joanne tour.

So what led to the mental health crisis? Gaga has never shared a definitive diagnosis, but has always been open about how her physical health takes a toll on her mental well-being. Stress from her workload, which included filming a movie and working on her music, plus physical health struggles, likely led to her mental decline. The A-lister insists she sought treatment and is in a much better place now.

Where does she stand now?

While Lady Gaga experienced a psychotic break and a mental health crisis in 2017 and 2018, she appears to be doing well today. During her chat with Rolling Stone, she reiterated that she’s in a much better place, feeling happy, whole, and healthy again. Gaga even incorporated the journey into her most recent tour, weaving themes of recovery into the Mayhem Ball tour, which kicked off in July.

The tour, which includes 87 tour stops around the world, will wrap up in April 2026 in New York City, Gaga’s hometown. While it’s unclear what will come next for Lady Gaga professionally, she knows what will come next for her personally. The pop star has plans to get married and become a mother. She has been engaged to Michael Polansky since July 2024. Although they haven’t publicly set a date, fans suspect the wedding will take place sooner rather than later. During an October 3 visit to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Gaga shared that she has many big plans, but hopes that motherhood will be her next “starring role.” That will likely need to wait until at least April, though. Still, it seems she has big plans.
