Anna Nicole Smith’s ex-boyfriend, Larry Birkhead, has opted to live a mostly private life with the daughter he shares with the late TV personality and model. Birkhead, however, isn’t shy about sharing his thoughts and feelings when it comes to Anna Nicole’s legacy and the impact that legacy has on his 19-year-old daughter, Dannielynn. Make no mistake about it, he’s 100% against a planned biopic about Anna Nicole’s final days and had absolutely nothing to do with the production.

A biopic about Anna Nicole Smith’s final days is set for theatrical release

Anna Nicole Smith’s tragic life was cut short in 2007, just months after welcoming her second child, Dannielynn Birkhead, and laying to rest her 20-year-old son, Daniel Wayne Smith. Over the years, there have been exposés, news segments, and magazine spreads about her death, the custody battle over Dannielynn, and Anna Nicole’s legacy. Now, nearly 20 years after she died inside a Florida hotel room, a biopic is planned.

The project, Trust Me, I’m a Doctor, will hit theaters on October 16. The biopic is based on a 2017 book by Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, Anna Nicole’s doctor, who was implicated in her death but later acquitted of all wrongdoing. Abbie Cornish will star as Anna Nicole Smith, while Kal Penn takes on the role of Dr. Sandeep Kapoor.

The biopic centers on the doctor’s account of the events surrounding her death rather than on Smith’s life more broadly, which makes it markedly different from other projects tied to the late star. Still, Larry Birkhead doesn’t like it.

Larry Birkhead has voiced his objections

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Birkhead revealed that he and Dannielynn oppose the production and were not involved in it whatsoever. He said, “We absolutely object to, you know, any of Anna Nicole’s, my life, my daughter’s life being used in a movie.”

Birkhead argued that the project is a money grab that is just recycling old material, noting that Anna Nicole’s story has already been told “several times” on screen. He cited a past Lifetime movie and an episode of “Law & Order” as examples. Birkhead also suggested that while he’s sure Cornish is a “nice person,” he doesn’t believe she embodies the exact appeal Anna Nicole had. He noted that it wasn’t a criticism of Cornish, just his honest take — in his opinion, no one has ever quite nailed her appeal, looks, and spirit.

Birkhead isn’t limiting his pushback to interviews. He revealed he has filed a complaint with the California Medical Board over Kapoor’s participation in the film. There appears to be little else he can do to halt the release, though.
