Justin Bieber and Usher reportedly almost came to blows at a post-Oscars party
Beyoncé and Jay-Z hosted an Oscars after-party at Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont. Major celebrities were in attendance, including Bieber and Usher.
Sources told TMZ that Usher approached his one-time mentee with “energy and anger.” This led to a “heated exchange” between the two of them. While some sources claimed they began a physical fight, Bieber sources said the argument didn’t come to blows.
They were last publicly spotted together in 2022
Per TMZ, the last time Bieber and Usher were together in public was 2022. Bieber owns a home in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Usher joined him lakeside for a day with friends in Coeur d’Alene.
While this was the last time the pair were in public together, they were still in contact in 2024. Usher said he invited Bieber to join him onstage during the Super Bowl halftime show. Bieber declined the invitation, but they made plans to do something in the future.
“I think that it might’ve been the fact that he’s just wanting to tell a different story right now, and I understand that,” he said on The Breakfast Club. “But we did have a brief conversation, and we’re gonna do something else in the future. No love lost or anything like that.”
Usher predicted that Bieber would headline the halftime show one day.
“Justin wasn’t the only person that I actually spoke to about doing the Super Bowl, but the moment was maybe for later,” he said. “He’s gonna play the Super Bowl. I’ll go ahead and give you that in the future. I profess that over his life. Because he has a career that deserves it.”
Usher was a key figure in Justin Bieber’s early career
In the early years of Bieber’s career, Usher served as his mentor. Usher was also a child star, and said he understood what the younger artist was going through.
“Sometimes he’s like a little brother or a son to me,” he told The New York Times in 2009. “I understand the pressure to be in that position. But I had a chance to ramp up my success, where this has happened to him abruptly. So Scooter [Braun], Ryan [Good], myself: we tag-team him.”
Usher said he believed in Bieber’s talent from the beginning. He, like many people at the time, discovered Bieber through his YouTube videos.
“His voice was magical and his personality was so keen,” he said. “He just knew how to be.”
