People are still buzzing about Bad Bunny‘s Super Bowl LX halftime show. The Puerto Rican artist’s 13-minute performance showcased and celebrated his roots and Latin heritage. But while performing his 2022 song, “El Apagón,” social media lit up over the rapper’s supposed diss at LeBron James.

Fans accused Bad Bunny of shading the Los Angeles Lakers superstar with a Spanish lyric that translates to “Barea, the one who became champion before LeBron.” JJ Barea is a Puerto Rican former NBA player who won a championship with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011, a year before James’ first championship.

However, that so-called “diss” that some were up in arms about is much ado about nothing because James and Bad Bunny are actually “great friends.”

In fact, just months before the Super Bowl, the two hung out when James attended one of Bad Bunny’s shows in San Juan. James even posted about his excitement before heading to the island to see his pal. After he arrived, James and fellow basketball star Draymond Green were seen on video laughing and dancing the night away with the musician.

Some may recall that Bad Bunny has also attended several Lakers games over the years. And when James broke the NBA’s all-time scoring record in 2023, the rapper congratulated him personally, calling him “La Cabra,” which translates to “The Goat.”

Moreover, James showed his support and congratulated Bad Bunny after the NFL announced in September that he was chosen as the Super Bowl halftime performer.

“I’m super happy for Bad Bunny that he’s able to represent the Super Bowl in San Francisco. That’s gonna be super dope,” James said during an interview in October. “He’s a great friend of mine, so it was great to see that.”
