Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks’ tumultuous relationship appeared to suffer a fatal blow when Fleetwood Mac fired him in 2018. Recently, though, they teamed up to re-release their 1973 album, Buckingham Nicks. Buckingham opened up about repairing his relationship with his former girlfriend and bandmate.

Lindsey Buckingham said he and Stevie Nicks reconnected

When Fleetwood Mac fired Buckingham in 2018, Nicks said she wanted nothing to do with him moving forward. Their relationship had been rocky for decades, and a perceived slight by Buckingham was the final straw for Nicks. Years later, however, they announced that they were reissuing their 1973 album, Buckingham Nicks

Buckingham said that working on the project together brought them close again. He hinted that they could work together again in the future.

“I think on a more general level, just the energy in terms of what Buckingham Nicks did to sort of create a resurgence of connection between Stevie and myself, I think on a larger scale, that seems to be something that’s in the air,” he told Instagram followers (via Rolling Stone). “And what that translates to specifically, I wouldn’t want to speculate yet. But I believe with all my heart, it will translate to something good, and something wonderful, and something needed and something extremely appropriate.”

Stevie Nicks once said the connection between herself and Lindsey Buckingham would always exist

Nicks and Buckingham broke up in 1976, shortly after they joined Fleetwood Mac. Even decades after this, Nicks said she didn’t think the connection between them would die.

“That electric crazy attraction between Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks never dies, never will die, never will go away,” she told MTV in 2009. “He’s married, he’s happy, he has three beautiful children that I love. You know, he’s found a good, happy, calm, safe place — but who Lindsey and I are to each other will never change.”

While she said she knew things were over for good when Buckingham had his first child, she still saw their dynamic as romantic.

“It’s over,” she said. “It doesn’t mean the great feeling isn’t there, it must mean that … you know, we’re beauty and the beast. It means that the love is always there but we’ll never be together, so that’s even more romantic.”

He was recently attacked

Buckingham was recently attacked by a woman in Santa Monica. When he arrived at an appointment, a woman threw an unknown substance on him. She then fled.
