U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are in the U.K. for their second state visit.

On Sept. 17, the two were welcomed to Windsor Castle by Prince William and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton). As the president’s Marine One helicopter touched down within the Walled Garden at Windsor Castle, a royal salute was fired at the Tower of London to mark the arrival. It was also celebrated with music from The Band of the Household Cavalry.

The Waleses walked up to the aircraft to greet the Trumps, and the president shook William’s hand before turning to his wife. Here’s what a lip reader caught the POTUS saying about Kate’s appearance, plus what he thinks about the princess taking such an active role in this state visit.

Lip-reading expert shares what Donald Trump said to Kate about how she looked

Kate wowed in a maroon Emilia Wickstead dress and a hat by Jane Taylor. She was seen wearing that coatdress before, which appeared to be updated a bit with double-breasted buttons for the day’s engagement. The princess wore black heels and her hair down in long, flowy curls. She complemented her look with a historic brooch dating back to 1863.

According to lip-reading specialist Jeremy Freeman, after exchanging pleasantries with the Prince of Wales by saying, “Hello, my friend. How are you?” President Trump told Kate: “You’re so beautiful, so beautiful.”

Another professional lip reader, Nicola Hickling, noticed that at one point while the royal couple stood in the grass, the princess struggled to find her footing. Hicking shared with Express, that Kate said to her husband, “My heels are sinking” to which the prince glanced down and asked, “Are you okay though?”

In a later exchange, Freeman saw Trump pointing to William and telling King Charles, “He’s like you, somebody who can open up all the global connections and make things happen. I’ll say he’s a good man, and if you want something, he’s a good guy.”

Prince William and Kate attended a reception at Buckingham Palace during the Trumps’ last visit in 2019, but didn’t have much more involvement beyond that. This time though, things are different as the future king and queen consort have more active roles.

The princess will take on a prominent role on the final day of the visit. Melania will be at Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House and the Royal Library at Windsor Castle before meeting with Kate at Frogmore Gardens.

The two ladies will then attend an engagement together to meet Chief Scout Dwayne Fields and members of the Scouts’ Squirrels program. Kate has been President of the Scout Association since 2020.

A source told the Daily Mail: “The president and first lady are thrilled that the Princess of Wales will play such a prominent role in their visit. The inclusion of Princess Kate in so many events during the state visit is an honor. The Trumps very much hoped she would be part of their visit, but nothing was confirmed until this week because of the princess’s health situation.”
