Lisa Marie Presley Said Michael Jackson Dropped His ‘Little Voice’ When He Was in Private
Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley married in 1994. Priscilla Presley admitted she didn’t quite understand what her daughter saw in him. Priscilla found his public persona a bit odd, and he avoided her in person. When she asked Lisa Marie what Jackson was like when they were alone together, she said he spoke differently.
Lisa Marie Presley said Michael Jackson was different behind closed doors
Jackson and Lisa Marie had a whirlwind romance. Less than a month after she divorced her first husband, they tied the knot. Priscilla said that their relationship took her by surprise because she wasn’t sure what to make of Jackson.
“He had that reputation, of course, the childlike shyness and tiny voice,” Priscilla Presley wrote in her book Softly, as I Leave You. “I watched him and tried to figure out what was going on. He was courting my daughter, and I wanted to know who he was as a person.”
Priscilla said Jackson tended to avoid her when they were at the same events. She wasn’t even sure what he sounded like during private conversations.
“I asked Lisa, ‘Doesn’t he talk?’” Priscilla recalled. “She said, ‘Yeah.’ ‘In that little voice?’”
Lisa Marie said Jackson sounded different behind closed doors.
“Well, no, not when we’re alone,” she told her mother. “Then he talks normally. He’s different when it’s just us. He acts, you know, normal. Not like he is the rest of the time.”
Priscilla said she found this bizarre. She was relieved when Lisa Marie and Jackson divorced in 1996.
