Lisa Rinna Said 1 Insult Drove Lisa Vanderpump More ‘Nuts’ Than Anything Else on ‘RHOBH’
Lisa Rinna and Lisa Vanderpump started as friends, but their relationship soured after several seasons together on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Rinna began to believe Vanderpump was manipulating her. After this point, Rinna said she did everything she could to get under her castmate’s skin. She said that one insult bothered Vanderpump more than anything else.

Rinna said that before she joined the cast of RHOBH, she knew Vanderpump. As a result, they had a friendly relationship when Rinna joined the show. This didn’t last. Rinna began to believe Vanderpump was manipulating her.
“Vanderpump’s an expert at manipulation — it’s why she makes such a good producer on her own show — she knows how to use other people like chess pieces,” she wrote in her new memoir You Better Believe I’m Gonna Talk About It (via InStyle). “She spends every waking hour figuring out her next move.”
The moment Rinna decided Vanderpump wasn’t her friend, she started trying to get under her skin.
“Once our power dynamic evened out and I saw her game plan with clear eyes, she lost control of me, and she never got it back,” she wrote. “I didn’t allow it. I tried to find ways to get under her skin, like saying she smelled like Chardonnay, cigarettes, and mothballs.”
According to Rinna, one thing she said in a confessional irritated her more than anything else.
“In one of my interviews, I blurted out that her house looked like a disco,” she wrote. “More than anything I ever did and said on that show, the disco dig made her nuts. I loved the cat and mouse game I had with her because it made for great television.”

In Season 6 of RHOBH, Rinna cast doubt on cast member Yolanda Hadid’s Lyme disease diagnosis. She claimed she wouldn’t have done this if it weren’t for Vanderpump.
“[I] went after Yolanda about her Lyme disease and questioned if she had Munchausen syndrome, basically inventing or exaggerating her symptoms for attention and sympathy,” she wrote. “I stepped in that villain role, but it was driven by Vanderpump and Kyle [Richards]. That’s the truth. I think it’s obvious now she had Lyme disease, and my heart aches that I ever questioned her.”
She added that she always thought highly of Hadid and never wanted to become “enemies” with her.
The former friends are no longer on speaking terms
Even years after they both left The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Vanderpump and Rinna have not mended their relationship. As recently as March 2025, Rinna admitted they were not on speaking terms.
“We end up at the same sushi spot up at the Glenn quite a bit,” she said on the Therapuss with Jake Shane podcast. “And nope, no words have been spoken.”
