Lisa Vanderpump Admitted the New ‘Vanderpump Rules’ Cast Isn’t Ready for Fan Attention
In the 12th season of Vanderpump Rules, Lisa Vanderpump is the only returning cast member from the original series. Vanderpump, who helped create the show, welcomes a rebooted cast. Fans reacted with trepidation, and Vanderpump acknowledged that the new cast will find the reaction challenging. She doesn’t think they’re ready for the scrutiny and attention from the show’s fans.
Lisa Vanderpump said the new cast of ‘Vanderpump Rules’ isn’t ready for the scrutiny on them
After the 11th season of Vanderpump Rules, the show announced that it would move forward with a new cast. Some fans were not happy with the news, which Vanderpump acknowledged. She said that the new cast would struggle with fan expectations and judgment.
“How can they be? It’s like a whole new world for them,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “But, you know, they have to maintain their job here. And they do, if they want to be on the show, this is where the show is based.”
While Vanderpump said she doesn’t always agree with the way the new cast behaves, she wants to do everything she can to support them. She’s a reality television veteran, appearing on both Vanderpump Rules and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
“So I’ll always be here to support them,” she said. “And they’re a strong group. I mean, they do get it wrong sometimes — you’re going to see it in the show — but they’re a strong group. There’s a lot of cohesion there, so they’ll probably get support from each other.”
She also feels confident that they’ll adapt to the new level of attention quickly.
“There’s a connection there, and things happen, and it’s documenting what they get up to,” she said. “They’re [a] pretty fast bunch.”
She revealed how they chose the new cast
As with the former cast, the new Vanderpump Rules stars work at SUR, Vanderpump’s restaurant.
“A couple were [added] later to the game before we started filming,” she said. “But essentially, I like to work on a group that has cohesion and authenticity, so Marcus and Kim and Demy, they’d worked here, Venus [as well], for years. I mean, I’m not going back to the OGs, but [they were working here] definitely for a few years.”
Vanderpump said she wanted people who knew how to work in a restaurant.
“[T]hey were all service,” she said. “They’re all ready to go.”
Still, cast members Chris Hahn and Jason Cohen have reality television experience. Some fans have responded to this news with skepticism.
Lisa Vanderpump shared what ‘Vanderpump Rules’ fans can expect from the new season
While the cast still works at SUR, Vanderpump said the vibe of this season will be different from what fans have seen in the past.
“So it’s almost like we stopped the cameras [after season 11], now we’re starting them again,” she said. “It’s just got a totally different feeling, because also, with the others, they were older now, there were more serious problems. It was fractured; some didn’t want to film with each other — it wasn’t the show that we started with.”
Vanderpump said the new cast gives the show a fresh, reinvigorated feeling.
“I mean, it was a great, what was it, 11 years?” she said. “But now it was a chance to go back to the restaurant and do it differently. Start afresh.”
