Lizzo Said Nicki Minaj’s Appearance at AmericaFest Didn’t Surprise Her
Nicki Minaj has faced growing backlash after her embrace of conservative politics, and Lizzo recently shared her thoughts on the matter. After a fan asked for her opinion, Lizzo said that Minaj’s recent turn rightward doesn’t surprise her. She shared why she thinks we may see more celebrities doing the same thing.
Lizzo said she isn’t surprised about Nicki Minaj’s political turn
Minaj recently made an appearance at AmericaFest, a conservative conference put on by Turning Point USA. While some of Minaj’s fans expressed disappointment at her appearance at the event, Lizzo said she wasn’t surprised.
“You’re about to see an influx of people who see that it is more profitable and more beneficial to join that side,” she said in a now-deleted TikTok video. “You’re going to see it. It already started, and it’s going to continue.”
She added that she believes money could inspire people to be more vocal about their political affiliations.
“This is Trump’s first year as president. We got three more years of people who are going to surprise you, and it’s going to hurt your feelings. It’s gonna disappoint you,” she said. “There’s money behind everything. There are privileges behind every move that people in these positions make. And I’m not surprised.”
People shared their thoughts about Lizzo’s take on Nicki Minaj
Many people have agreed with Lizzo’s take on Minaj. People expressed their opinions that some celebrities might backtrack on previously expressed beliefs.
“When certain paths come with built-in advantages, you’re always going to see folks gravitate toward them, even if it means abandoning whatever they claimed to stand for before,” one Reddit user wrote. “Outcome of a system that rewards alignment over integrity.”
“This is a super level-headed take,” added another person. “And universally true.”
A number of people wondered if Minaj needs money. She could potentially lose her $20 million mansion so that a security guard can collect on the $500,000 judgment against her. Still, people could not agree if this would work out for the “Starships” rapper.
The rapper previously spoke out against Donald Trump
Adding fuel to people’s speculation about Minaj’s intentions is the fact that she previously criticized Donald Trump. Minaj vocally disagreed with his immigration policies during his first term.
“I’m not gonna jump on the Donald Trump bandwagon,” she told Rolling Stone. “I don’t like that. I get that a lot of people don’t like him for obvious reasons. But, what stuck with me was the children being taken away from their parents when they came into this country.”
She came to the United States as an immigrant, so could empathize with children being separated from their parents.
“That really bothered me because I was one of those immigrant children coming to America to flee poverty,” she said. “And I couldn’t imagine a little child going through all of that, trying to get to another country because they didn’t have money in their country, or whether you’re fleeing from war … and then being taken away from the one person that makes you feel comfort. That is what really raised my eyebrows. That is what made me go, ‘Something about this doesn’t sit right in my spirit.’”
Despite this, Minaj said she found him funny on The Celebrity Apprentice.
