Tickets to Lorde’s upcoming Ultrasound Tour went on sale on Friday, May 16. The New Zealand-born singer wrapped up her last tour in 2023, so fans are eager for the chance to see her perform live again. Unfortunately, many will have to pay a high price to do so. Given the larger scale of the tour, prices are higher than fans expected. Many expressed their disappointment.

Tickets to Lorde’s Ultrasound Tour are currently on sale

Lorde will release her fourth studio album, Virgin, this June, and will travel the world to share it with fans on her Ultrasound Tour. The tour kicks off in Austin, Texas on Sept. 17 and will be of a larger scale than previous tours.

“I am in legitimate shock about your excitement for this tour,” Lorde wrote in a newsletter (per Rolling Stone). “It’s beyond what I could have dreamed. Deciding to book a bigger tour was something I agonised over (Melo arena tour…if you know……) but in the spirit of having the gd stones I decided that this music wants to be played in big rooms and that a lot of us should be there. To have that met with this is so beautiful. Thank you for your faith in me. I am not f***ing around with it.”

Fans are not happy about what they have to pay for tickets to Lorde’s tour

Tickets to the Ultrasound Tour range in price from $140 to over $1,000. At the time of publication, many available tickets to her Madison Square Garden Show went for between $300 and $600. Fans have found these prices hard to swallow.

“I’ve gone to see Lorde for Melodrama and Solar Power,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “My solar power tickets were $193 CAD and I was front orchestra, very close to lorde I think about 5-8 rows back. My Melodrama tickets for lower bowl front row in Toronto were about $150-$200 CAD each, not presale (leading up to the show). When I was in queue today (10:05am), I saw tickets from $350 each in lower bowl (from rows 10 and below) and $700 for seated pit. Pit tickets were sold out. Very disappointed in the fact that her team would choose to do dynamic pricing when she hasn’t in the past. And the fact that she priced the tickets well above inflation is truly upsetting.”

Many expressed disappointment that even the nosebleed seats were well over $100.

“I understand with inflation, but nosebleeds should never be more than $50-$80,” wrote the original poster. “That’s outrageous …”

Some pointed to the fact that concerts for popular artists are becoming increasingly inaccessible, especially for young people.

“Concerts are now for [influencers] and nepobabys now I guess because who the f*** under 25 has that amount just lying round,” one person wrote.

Others said they didn’t find the larger scale of the tour worth it if it meant they couldn’t afford to attend.

“She wants to make the show cool and in your face,” one person wrote. “Thats after making you poor.”

Concert ticket prices have soared in recent years

Lorde is far from the only artist to face complaints about ticket prices in recent years. Per USA Today, the average cost of a concert ticket in 2024 was $135.92. In 2019, before COVID-19, the average ticket price was $96.17.

For big artists, ticket prices have shot up astronomically. Fans paid an average of $1,088 to see Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in 2023. Many artists also use dynamic pricing for their tours, meaning that as demand increases, prices do too. This can lead to fans spending hundreds of dollars to see their favorite artists.
